Dr. Young, I'm scheduled to get in a hyperbaric chamber later this week. I have a cysts on my spinal cord, I was wondering if this would have any effect? positive or negative? Is this a safe procedure for someone with a SCI? Thanks, Josh

Sorry, I did not respond earlier to your posting. I don't think that hyperbaric oxygen treatment would be harmful to you although the data on its beneficial effects for spinal cord injury is limited. It probably would be helpful for decubiti and other problems that would benefit from improved oxygenation. It may help the spinal cord if it is short on blood flow but this is uncommon in spinal cord injury unless you have a compression or tethering of the cord.
