Actress Teri Garr to Reveal She Has Multiple Sclerosis; News Conference in NY on Wed, Oct 9 at 11 am ET


NEW YORK, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Teri Garr, Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress in "Tootsie," will hold a news conference in New York this Wednesday, October 9 to reveal she has Multiple Sclerosis -- and has had symptoms for the past 19 years.

Garr: "I didn't tell people because I didn't want pity and I was afraid I wouldn't get work. But others with MS need to know they are not alone. We don't have to be victims."

Garr, one of America's most beloved comic actresses, also starred in "Young Frankenstein," "Oh, God!," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and has been a frequent guest on David Letterman. She began her career as a dancer. Garr is a paid ambassador for MS Lifelines, a patient service program dedicated to assist persons living with MS and their caregivers. MS Lifelines and the ambassador program are funded by Serono and Pfizer.
