I agree with you, many are not really valid.

One of the things that I have learned to watch out for is, if something is emailed to you with an attachment that is not an image or regular text such as .htm, .html, or .eml, then chances are that it not worth opening.

A lot of forwarded junk mail is usually started to collect lots of email addys for spam lists, since they know that the message will be forwarded around to hundreds. Usually I do not open any forwarded mail or send them either to others for the same reason.
