I just found out that I will be an olympic torchbearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City games!

Representing Citigroup (my parent company)and the sci community (Craig Hospital, etc.) I hope to garner some local media attention to bring more awareness and education to our cause.

Being the only guy in a chair (I'm C6-7)look for me somewhere between Colorado & Utah.

GO CURE! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

When they had the LA Olympics and Paralympics the wheelchair uses had a bracket installed on their chairs so they could push and carry the torch without dropping it (or getting burned!). Also used for power wheelchair uses who could not hold the weight. Let us know when you know your assigned position and time!

Max, you hit it on the head. The first thought was 'what if I drop it?'

Anybody got a light?

Maybe I'll have to get a jump start off of someone's cigarette? Hey buddy...

I'll definitely have to get a bracket or I'll just be going in circles pushing with one hand.

Date and time to follow as soon as I hear.

GO CURE!

is 01/31/02. 8:45am. Got my uniform yesterday!

Also was able to garner two newspaper articles and a channel 4 three part piece highlighting research, fundraising, awareness.

I'm trying to use the olympic torch relay as a platform for progress towards a cure.

Thank you for your support.

Way to go, Chris!

Hey, I should email you about Littleton sometime. I've only been there once to visit my bro, but he joked that I should move there so he can have a beer-buddy. I don't have any plans to, but you never know. It'd be cool to know what the area's like for accessibility.

Hey Chris, what network is channel 4? I want to give the heads up to my local channels so I can see you too! And can you wear a hat with a logo or put something on the back of your chair? Not a Nike Swish more like a wheel to walk thing?

Channel 4 here is CBS. I'll post more details as they become available. Have to wear the torchbearer uniform and can have only Coke or Chevy logos. Sorry. I do have mountain bike tires on my chair though. Thick, tready. They may be recognizable.

Thanks for the support.

Scorpion; Colorado is great for accessability. One of the reasons I've stayed. Feel free to e-mail me at christopher.d.chappell@rssmb.com

Our local news has been showing some torch bearers in blue sweats and others in white. While we are lloking for the big tires, what color should we be looking for? http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Chris Chappell

is the color I'll be wearing. Pure as the driven snow don't you know. Ha ha. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

awesome, chris! that has to be one of the best ways to get sci cure research in the media i have heard of.

just to make sure, you're mountain time right?

too bad you have to follow a dress code. was there anything in the rules about putting anything on your chair? hehehe

i thought i better dig this out with all your go cures. melissa

Anyway to get Chevy to at least use their Mobility Program logo for your chair back? But hey, I found the CBS email here and hopefully we'll see you on the Baltimore affiliate!
