Just Curious of what the most common area level of injury is among the people that are SCI on this Site?

Curtis, you need to include those with conus medullaris injuries below L4 and cauda equina injuries too.

If I change the L-4 to S-4 would that cover every SCI then? This is kind of an interesting poll as it looks like so far there are mostly higher level quads. Could that be because the Neck is more vunerable? and the back is more well protected?
I would put a separate category: Conus/Cauda equina.
Roughly half the injuries are cervical and half in other areas of the spinal cord from the last stats I looked at.

Nationally, I'm pretty sure the percent of quads vice paras is close to 50/50. I just posted to bump this up. I think the percent of hi-level quads without hand and arm movement would have been important.

Here are the most recently available stats...it is just about half for those with tetraplegia:
"Since 1990 the most frequent neurologic category is incomplete tetraplegia (29.5%), followed by complete paraplegia (27.3%), incomplete paraplegia (21.3%), and complete tetraplegia (18.5%)."
This information comes from the SCI Model System Centers data base. You can see more at this link:

I'd be interested to find out how many are complete or incomplete.

i was told that the area around c5-c6 is the "fulcrum point" of your neck....its the easiest place to injure in your neck because thats where you get the most flexion....thats just what i was told though....maybe Wise can clarify....
