so I have MPD hand controls in my current minivan... I've got a new jeep being built up right now... will the hand controls transfer w/o problem from one vehicle to the other? They're not vehicle-specific, right? I'm just tryin' to save $$ here. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

Scott,
I was unable to remove the hand controls from my old van and have them installed in the new one. The dealer said EMC (hand control manufacturer) would not provide a warranty for "transferred" controls and therefore the dealer would not service them. The dealer removes hand controls from used vehicles and sends them to EMC, who then either re-builds them or trashes them. My controls were electronic, though, so it might be different if yours are just the basic mechanical kind.
I am wondering if there is a way the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act could be applied to EMC's demand that you purchase new controls for another vehicle. I mean really, do they know what vehicle they are in, and will they break down just because of being in a different one while still under warranty? I am sure this has nothing to do with making a buck at all, eh? By the way, is EMC the manufacturer that demands you purchase software 'upgrades' and has a time limit on how long they work between 'upgrades'? I rememeber reading up on one of those electronic controls that had this.

Scott-
From my research & asking around, I believe that MPD controls can be transferred w/little problem. You may need to purchase a new mounting bracket to fit your Jeep's steering colulmn. I hope that you have luck getting your Jeep fixed up for your use.

I've used (wore out) 5 different sets of hand controls, all regular manual type and all were interchangable vehicle to vehicle and left or right. May need to use a different kind of mounting bracket. Good luck!
