PVA to Meet in Memphis for 57th Annual Convention

WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- National directors and delegates representing the 34 chapters of the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) will meet in Memphis, Tenn., for PVA's 57th Annual Convention, August 4-9, at the Memphis Convention Center.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Anthony Principi will deliver the keynote address on Friday, Aug. 8, at 9 a.m. The Honorable Leo S. Mackay Jr., Ph.D., VA's deputy secretary-will speak on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 9 a.m. The location for both of these events is Ballroom A in the Convention Center. During a barbecue luncheon on Wednesday, August 6, attendees will enjoy a performance by country music star, Aaron Tippin.
PVA's Annual Convention provides a forum for PVA representatives from around the country to discuss issues of concern to PVA members, other veterans and members of the disability community. This includes funding of the Department of Veterans Affairs (news - web sites), ensuring quality health care for PVA members and all veterans, providing advocacy for all people with disabilities, supporting spinal cord injury research and enhancing rehabilitation through sports and recreational activities.
PVA will present several chapter and individual awards at this year's Convention, including the "Speedy Award," PVA's highest honor. The Speedy Award recognizes an individual's (member and non-member) significant contribution to improving the lives of America's paralyzed veterans. This year, the Speedy Award will be presented to PVA member Frank Rigo of Arizona and non-member Patricia Wise.
"The Annual Convention brings together members from around the country to help define the path our organization will follow," said Joseph L. Fox, Sr., PVA national president. "By the time the Convention ends, the work of the attendees will result in a PVA with renewed vigor."
