It is the 3rd of July 2003 and Netscape had the following news for our perusal:

Scientists Baffled by Sea Creature (http://channels.netscape.com/ns/news/story.jsp?floc=FF-APO-1102&idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20030703%2F153331097.htm&sc=1102&photoid=20030703SCL102)

Man Gets Life in Prison for Spitting (http://channels.netscape.com/ns/news/story.jsp?floc=FF-APO-1110&idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20030703%2F123925103.htm&sc=1110)

Man Cuts Wife in Half, Goes to Work -- Police (http://channels.netscape.com/ns/news/story.jsp?floc=FF-RTO-reodd&idq=/ff/story/0002%2F20030703%2F075116271.htm&sc=reodd)

Sex While Speeding Down the Highway? No Problem! (http://channels.netscape.com/ns/news/story.jsp?floc=FF-RTO-reodd&idq=/ff/story/0002%2F20030702%2F082170917.htm&sc=reodd)

Sigh.

It is a problem with the laws.... you should not be a danger for others...a principle. A principle cannot be a law...things have to be specified. .... I believe, now they will think about building special side ways for short stops for that purpose. Then they will make new signs like "sex parking area" and as soon as these signs are established on the roads, they will add 'sex' to the list of things that are forbidden while driving.

He cuts his wife in half.... no obvious motive...perhaps he was in the mood of 'biting a little bit' et explorand des frontieres?
I know another man who would vaporize his wife, hire a rocket and distribute her in space.... if he could be sure to keep it secret.... hence she has a chance to survive.

Curious...did he cut her on the ventral or dorsal section?
...The judge will probably say this is not a crime...perhaps it was an accident while he was trimming his beard...men always seem to get away with murder...and no one thinks anything of it...and yet I have seen a man locked up for throwing a poodle out of the window of a car in California....

It is truly amazing what passes for news these days. A story reporting that thousands of people have been killed in Africa does not attract as much attention as a story of a woman cutting off the penis of her husband. Wise.

I am a red, white and blue American but it seems it is us, Americans, who get the news that we want to hear. Most Americans can barely locate Africa, much less Liberia, on the map of the world. Tests of high schoolers find that more than half cannot place the dates for the American Civil War, Viet Nam War or even the signing of the Declaration of Independence correctly.
Look at what has happened to what used to be fun, and occassionally even editorial comments on our society, in the evening TV schedules. Now it is people eating worms, embarassing their friends or worse--buying or selling love.

Yup, the news is normally bad but at least we kept up with the state of our world. Now we get insights into deviant behavior instead...

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."
