My partner had a c3/c4 fusion 18 months ago. She returned to work, is functional but lives with constant pain that varies from dull to full-on light sensative migraines (directly resulting from the surgery-she takes zomig for this). She has contacted many, if not all of the large organizations relating to SCI and they've all told her the same thing - 'be thankful that you can function and walk, learn to live with the pain, there's nothing we can do for you and no support groups available to people like you.' My question is - are they right? We know that the physical pain is something that will have to be delt with for the rest of her life, and she's been almost guaranteed that she will need another surgery down the line for a complete fusion with rods.
We'd just like to find someplace to start, ya know? Some sort of support group or meet-up of people who range from quads to walkers. What she needs right now is the emotional support of similarly injured people and she just can't find ANY.
Any sort of help or suggestions would be welcomed and wonderful. We live in the central jersey area. She's near New Brunswick and I'm near Newark.
