I was wondering if anyone could possibly help explain a little more about autonomic dysreflexia.
Do I have it or something similiar?

I am a 28 year old male. I was diagnosed with moderate hypertension almost 10 years ago, but it was controlled with meds. But recently my pressure has escalated out of control. It seems they've tried numerous meds and nothing is working consistently. I was admitted to hospital for extensive testing by a kidney specialist. CT scan of abdomen, renal scan, urine/blood etc...all came up good. I keep a healthy lifestyle in that I exercise 4-5 days a week with weights and jog 3 miles regularly.

Why do i think i have a spinal injury? Out of pure chance, I noticed my blood pressure would rise to 170+/100's if I am relaxing (seated or laying) in any normal position. However, if I sit erect with back completely arched or if i sit regular with my head/kneck tilted all the way back, my pressure readings will slowly come down to normal readings.

One problem is from this whole ordeal, I suffer anxiety disorder and panic attacks which cause my pressure to rise no matter which position i am in. But if i am in a calm setting and reasonbly mentally calm, I can control my pressure (up or down) as if like pressing a button. (simply changing spinal/body positioning)

I mentioned possible spinal relation to the kidney doctor and he quickly dismissed any correlation.

Should I see a chiropractor? Hypertension runs in my family (grandmother) but I REALLY find it abnormal to be able to lower my pressure manualy by body position or make it higher by changing position.

p.s. Other than symptoms stated, could I have a spinal injury causing this that doesn't produce any other symptoms? I do do a lot of heaving lifting exercises and hurt my back weeks ago. I just passed it off as muscle aches but it reoccured once again. But it has since gone away. Could I have a very slight injury to spine or misalignment that could cause AD or does it require a major spinal injury?

I am moving this over to the Care forum where it belongs. You can see responses there (http://carecure.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8042).
