Could someone please refer me to good SCI doctors in Sacramento? I am especially looking for a Physical Medicine and Rehab doctor, a urologist, and a neurologist. My current insurance is with an HMO, and they're not very forward-looking / conversant with SCI. Starting January I would be on Medicare, and would be able to go to any doctor. To start with I need a good PM&R doctor to guide physical therapy, and a urologist for bladder analysis/treatment options. Thanks.

I don't know him personally, but this physiatrist is a member of the American Spinal Injury Association, so would be a good place to start:

Paul Kaplan, M.D.
PM&R Rehabilitation Management Systems
648 Northfield Drive
Sacramento, CA 95833
tel.(916)728-9728

I'm sorry I didn't see your request earlier however, maybe I can still be of help. I lived in Sacramento for 20 years (10 as a quad) I had great doctors at the University of Ca, Davis medical center. Dr. Anthony Stone is a fabulous urologist and very knowledgeable regarding SCI; There is also a very active PM&R dept. it was run by Vivianne Ugalde, MD., I'm not sure who has taken her place. There is also a terrific support group for SCI located on site once a week. Good luck, I hope you find the docs that are best for you! Believe me, after moving to Florida; I miss my CA. doctors terribly!~Originally posted by Quad62:

Hi...

I'm a recent SCI patient within the UC Davis system...

Dr. Stone is a great Urologist, Kenton Wang is a great (attending)doctor within PM & R, and I don't have a neurologist...

Dr. Holly Zhao is the SCI 'specialist' or whatever, but I'm not a fan... if you want prescriptions go for her, but if you have other interests in recovery, I'd HIGHLY reccomend Dr. Wang.
