I want to consult with a neurologist here in Phoenix regarding a decompression. Can anyone recommend any of the docs at either Barrows or Mayo? I want experience first, good attitude second.

Thanks in advance.

You probably should be looking for a neurosurgeon, not a nuerologist if you are looking for advice on decompression. Barrows has an excellent reputation, and I am sure any of their neurosurgeons who do trauma care would be able to advise you.

We have taken care of a number of Dr. Sonnetag's patients here and they all like him. I believe he practices at St. Joseph's/Barrows Neurologic Institute.

Definitely see Sonntag. Not only does he have a good rep, he's probably the kindest neurosurgeon I have ever met. He performed my adopted daughter's surgery and she praises him.

Dr. A. S. "Nash" Khatter, M.D.
Diplomate, American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology
He would be my first choice. His open mind, sincerity, and concern for his patients is unparalleled. I don't know of any other doctor who on his own, unrequested, visit a patient in hospital on not only his off hours but on the eve of a well deserved vacation. He has been a god send.
