Is there any tests which can be done to see exactly which nerves were damaged, where scar tissue is located, etc etc?

Yes, there are many tests that can be done to determine the extent, location, and severity of damage to the spinal cord. At the present, however, there is no reliable method of ascertaining the location and distribution of "scar" tissues inside the spinal cord. MRI scans can be used to determine if there are adhesive scars between the spinal cord and dura.
