super cool, but not cure related
yeah, saw it on news, don't even think it's cool, but why is this in cure forum?
and, another thing, what exactly is inspirational in this story?

Really? You can't see the beauty and guts in that? Granted it's in the wrong section, but sheesh, give the guy some credit.

his fantastic ability to ski down ungroomed mountains. A very good ab skier would probably not try what he was shing in the first portion of the video. That was some outrageous skiing. I am not sure how his torso is locked in, but skiing involves a lot of torso. Sking ungroomed deep powder with unknown terrain requires even more torso.
The fact that he then went on to do a back flip. is f%4king amazing.
he is incredible . And the fear factor of making yourself worse worse so much realer when your already a t level, doing a back flip could put you at a c level , and i am sure he know all too much what that is about.
it is not cure , it should be in life, but i wouldn't bite the poster, everyone gets confused on where to put things , unless they have a couple hundred posts. put it in LIFE it will get many more views and it deserves many more views.
inspirational, well maybe not to you. but to someone that understands the dangers of the mountain, and the fact that he got back on the horse and rocked it. Put himself in a position , that he knew damn well could land him inm a second as high c injury. Wee maybe inspirational is the wronf word. BIG BALLS and dedication to excellence and extreme hard work in spite of hid recent injury, which he got as a result of a flip gone bad.
Maybe it should read extremely big balled and tenacious paraplegic works extremely hard to conquer the mountain.
i was inspired by it.to each their own and i see a lot of crap that is not inspirational that is called as such
i, frankly, don't see such things as inspirational. that's all. extreme sports likewise. gutsy, trying to prove something to somebody, w/e, ok. (like the guy in wheelchair who did backwards flip). but, inspirational? no.
btw, ungroomed mountains, metro?? many ppl have skied post. many have gotten back on their respective horses.

I find it very cool, but very stupid. To each their own, but I look at it, He's pretty luck to be a para, why ask and risk another break, or death?

I cannot believe some of the responses on this thread! He went about it carefully though, he did everything he could to prepare and perform the stunt safely. I don't understand what's stupid about it. He's doing something he loves, and I admire him for that. Anything can put you in a wheelchair or worse, and if you live your lives being afraid to go out of the house I pity you. This summer I'm planning on riding the very bike I crashed last July, because I loved riding more than almost anything. I know there is a risk that something could go wrong, but I'll take every precaution I can to make it as safe as possible.
...Or would you prefer to sit around the house all day?

Not stupid at all and also very inspirational unless you get your inspiration from the TV and the kardashian's.
Josh is very careful about what he does it took him 3 years to do this with expert advice this was calculated to the fullest.
Sure it could have gone wrong but he could have inured himself falling out of bed also.
From what I can see he's living life to the fullest and does not dwell on his disability we could all take a lesson in that.
Oh if you want to know more about him he will be on the Ellen show this Wednesday check it out.

and these are the only 2 choices you see? you make a lot of assumptions about many ppl here.

you, too, make too many assumptions about ppl here.

Being a mother with a career, I expected a more mature response. And I can't believe you can quote swim's post and say he's making assumptions. Is it just that you don't like people having a different opinion to your own? You're not worth the time spent writing this post, of course you're right, enjoying himself was very stupid.

Wow talk about making assumptions, let me enlighten you.
-10.5 years post injury
-Married 10 years
-Finished computer science degree 2 years post injury
-3 bio kids 3 foster kids - 1,4,7,10,12,14
-Work full time at a medical software company
-Volunteer at my kids schools
-Volunteer 2 days and 2 nights a week with the disabled ski program
-Sit on 2 Boards for adaptive athletes
-Currently piloting a bobsleigh program for adaptive athletes
-Training for 2 Ironman's this year
Not sure what assumption you think I am making about ppl on this board? Some people choose to live some choose to dwell, I assume that most on the board are living and owning who and what they are.
Josh is living his life and disability to the fullest from what I can see, I suspect he has really shitty days also.
I personal choose to live my life to the fullest, for my children and for me I am a roll model to them and to be any less then the best I can be would be a disservice.

You actually wanted an answer? Of course they're not the only two choices.
I'm only a couple of months out of rehab and i'm back at college catching up on what I missed, I'm preparing to go back to work, going to gym regularly and going out with friends. This isn't enough for me though, I want to get back on my bike again, go sailing and skiing again, and try some new activities I havn't done yet. If anything having a SCI has just spurred me on to make even more of my life!
Anyway, it wasn't just you, cass, that I was annoyed with and i'm sorry if i singled you out. When someone does something amazing, especially if it helps give SCI more publicity, they don't deserve to be put down by thier peers. That is what wound me up.

Josh was on Ellen today. I like what he says about his tattoo and how he expresses himself versus how others might express themselves. If I had Josh's abilities, I would do the same I think.
Because the thread has drifted, I have to ask this question. So many people with a disability get offended when someone says they are an inspiration. Do those of us who have a disability get a pass on this? I ask because there are a lot of people with disabilities that I find inspirational.

As a matter of interest- Josh won Gold today in Kimberley, BC in both downhill heats of the Noram Speed Event.
Besides being an accomplished skier, he is a very well spoken and positive person who is willing to take time to speak with anybody that cares to approach him. You don't have to agree with his style of expression, but he is a positive example to all SCI as are all the athletes that compete.
If you ever have the opportunity to see one of these events- make sure you do. Everyone of these athletes is an outstanding example of living life to the fullest regardless of your ability. There are 40 athletes from 8 different countries competing here this week.

I don't normally watch Ellen, but I did for his interview, and thought it was great to see her highlight his achievements, and also thought it was rad that he got to roll up and hop into her chair like a regular guest would have.
I wish a mod would combine the 2 threads on the subject.
