I am a walking quad at C3,4,5 central cord syndrome. Within the last few months I have been experiencing muscle weakness, balance and stability problems and cognitive issues. My neurologist's diagnosis is possible early Parkinson and prescribed a six week regimen of L-Dopa. Are their other possibilities of what this might be?

Yes, there are. Your incomplete injury may be experiencing some increased pressure on the cord. Was a MRI or CT done? What makes the neurologist think that you have early Parkinson's? And, lastly, is the L-Dopa working?

Yes, I've had an MRI and CT scans of the thoracic and cervical areas and no closure of spinal column was seen. My neurologist took an EMG. From this he concluded that he'd like to try the L-Dopa for a six week trial. If I don't show any improvement, he'll go down another path (?). Should I get a second opinion?

In my opinion, it never hurts to get a second opinion. However, not all physicians are comfortable with that. You need to decide if you are comfortable with the physicin you are being treated by and/or how he would feel if you went for another opinon.

No, L-Dopa is specific to Parkinson's and disorders of the brain.
