I just saw that on the news. Minneapolis had a tornado this afternoon that killed one. Terrible. By weird coincidence I was just looking at a newspaper from Joplin MO.
My daughter just returned from a planes, train and automobile trip and brought me newspapers from Milwaukee to Santa Fe to Denver etc.
I seldom travel, but love newspapers.

I cannot imagine.
A redcross worker on CNN said 75% of the town was gone.
How can the weather just wipe away entire towns?

We are supposed to go into the central room of our home since we do not have a basement. What good does that do you if the entire roof is ripped off?
Scarey stuff.

I wasn't prepared for the helicopter. I cannot find out if there were warnings or if people had time to go to an inside corridor?

it did the same thing below us, 240-270 in a few days time, most since '29 i think without looking it up again, just wiped cities off the map in alabama.......horrible....the one that took out tuscaloosa stayed on the ground for 200 miles, i believe they said.....

There was a show tonight on the Discovery Channel about this year's tornadoes. I guess and one day, there were three F5's which on record hasn't happened since the 19th century. It's been weird here in Arizona to. It's just now warming up to normal temperatures. The other day, I didn't get any hotter than 75° with the normal temperature is in the 90s. There some crazy stuff going on in the atmosphere. I have a funny feeling it's going to be a really hot summer for us. The hottest I've ever been in was July 20, 1995, the day after my 18th birthday when I started working at a dealership (I was a mechanic) and it was an outdoor shop. That was hell

These storms are absolutely crazy! I live in Tuscaloosa and am praying for the people in Joplin and other affected areas.

they showed more about it this morning, alot of damage, they are looking at storms too again today they said, they were talking last night that there had been over 875 tornadoes so far this year, said it was from the cooler water coming off the ocean causing the disruptions in the atmosphere......but its weather, they never get it right, we sure have had some crazy wind and rain!

It does seem like the weather is getting more severe each year. Whatever happens happens more frequently and with more power, be it tornado, hurricaine, or blizzards. My heart goes out to the people affected. I can't even imagine it, and am always blown away when someone stands in front of a camera and says they are OK, that they will rebuild and move on. I am not at all sure I would have the strength to do so.

Scott that was horrendous...it gave me chills
Today, I watched this video on CNN. It reminded me of a scene out of a Hollywood movie. Horrifying.

Anderson Cooper is playing all kinds of stuff tonight....
I don't usually watch the political stuff on the news shows.
The scenes they are showing tonight are horrifying.
They are bracing for more tornadoes in the next few days and its storming tonight. AC is dodging lightning bolts. He reported two police officers had been struck by lightning tonight.
I am thankful.

I also heard that this year the hurricane season will be big and bad. Let us hope those people are wrong.
I have a theory, about the financial straw that will brake the back of the US. We will have so many disasters, in such scales, and densely populated areas that the financial cost will be just too enormous. People will have to go somewhere, live on something. If I was in charge I would redirect some war money for disaster relieve and resources riot/crime control, because poop will hit the fan.

My SCI is a result of a tornado which hit our campsite last summer. Everytime I see anything about tornados on the news, I cringe. My heart goes out to the people in the South, the folks in Joplin, Oklahoma and Minneapolis. Really, really a scary thing to go through.

Quick question, are houses in that part of country built with basements? My mom says they aren't, and that's why there have been so many fatalities.

Basements are required in colder parts of the country (North and North East) because a foundation has to be below the frost line. They are not as popular in warmer climates simply because they are not necessary - some have storm shelters though.

we have quite a few, I'd say, around 40% have basement here in tn. but also the houses are so built up and the tree lines are took away to break up the wind is one of the reasons we see so many hurt and houses wiped out, when i was growing up, the subdivision was non existant......
It is horrible I feel sorry for all the victims
Something freaky it is not common for so many to show up all over and just demolish everywhere .
The hospital ooooh my gosh how terrible .
I am speechless as I havent been able to call my friends in Missouri and Oklahoma
Maybe tomorrow i'll be able to contact my friends in Missouri both he and his lovely Wife have really been on my mind .
