My husband is C5 and looking for a 4 wheel drive chair because we live in country..He keeps getting stuck in the mud or sticks gather under his tires. We have seen two chairs....Tracabout and Extreme 4x4. Does anyone have one of these chairs any feedback would be appreciated. The advertising makes them sound too good...through snow, water, hunting, hills...etc... We would appreciate any info

Mustang, What didn't you like about the Extreme? And what did you like more about the trax. Both appear to be a quality machine and I would like to purchase one of them. Any help from you would be appreciated.

the extreme did not seem to have the power that the trax did going up a hill in my back yard. the extremes motors over heated on the way up and i had to wait for them to cool to go on up.the trax has a much better ride and was more comfortable for me. the trax was also much faster and more controllable going down my gravel road.i really like the seat on the trax. hope that helps.

I'm currently trying to choose my next wheelchair and would enjoy any info on the best chair for indoors ans alot of outdoor use. I would like the Extreme 4x4 but it wouldn't turn enough to get into certain places I go. Are the Omega Trac chairs as strong or stronger in the motors as an Action Ranger?
Just trying to get opinions because its such a major purchase in my case plus having to use it daily.
I need good battery life but at the same time I need Torque. I live in the Ozarks; rough terrain.

Thanks

Has anyone ever tried the Trac-about? That too looks pretty promising as an all terrain wheel-chair. I'd be a little leary about the track life. I'll bet there expensive to replace.

I've heard good things about the trax Mustang, I hope you have good luck with it.

Maybe I should just ask for a new spinal cord. Mine has a whole in it.

Do you have the big or the small seat on the Permobile Trax? And is it working ok on snow and ice? I have only tried it on the grass.

Thanks for all the advice. My husband has test driven both the Tracabout and the Extreme 4X4. As was stated it is such a big purchase we want to be sure. He has to have a tilt in space on the chair to do weight shifts this significantly increased the cost of both chairs...especially the tracabout which was his favorite of the two...it will go anywhere and the one he looked at comes with snow tracs as well as smooth tracs. The extreme 4x4 is faster but hard to back up as the front wheels turn at the slightest touch and it gets hung up..I also wonder how easy it would be to turn over...Just an update...He is trying to get a test drive in the permobil trax...What is an Action Ranger?

Armstrong,
Have you purchased one yet? If so, which one and why?

Dave,
My husband decided on the tracabout...he really liked the EXTREME 4X4 too...final decision was based on our mini van..both chairs were a very tight fit but the tracabout got in just a little easier...and the tracabout turns better(sharper in smaller radius)...tracabout also comes with snow treads as well as regular treads. Having said all that we ordered it 4 weeks ago and it should be another 4 weeks before it arrives.

Thanks Armstrong,
I had the opportunity to drive a friend's extreme 4x4 this past weekend. It was fun, but the turning radius was terrible. And as you stated before, backing up over any kind of debris was difficult at best.

Does the trac-about have any kind of suspension? It doesn't look like it in the photo's. How long are the treads supposed to last, and do they come off easily?

Please keep us posted. The closest dealer to my house is approx. four hours away and you could save me a lot of time.

Thanks,
Dave

:shitfan: I have read complaints about weak drives breaking while off road with the "EXTREME 8. Shafts have broken within 6 months of delivery. I have taken one for a test ride; I live in an area with Soft Sand and when it rains Mud. It is very unstable with anyone that weights more than 75 pound and over three feet tall. :sorry: maybe more. I found it to need the tires pressure lowered for sand of any kind but worst than all on Asphalt with sand on it it was out of control at any speed. I would look at the OmegaTrak system or a high quality chair as such. But they sold out a couple of years ago to NextMobility/ Wmega. aka MTS MOBILITY they really have skewered this company up. But what do I know I'm just an end user.
With a new owner, and production control they are pushing the end user to the bottom of priority. :2guns:

:whisper: Oh and BTW you must lock the rear wheels to backup this removes it from rapid transit and most rear lifts. Hey think of it this way. If you encounter a mob of people you can do a high speed turn just in front of the crowd and the rear end will decimate the whole bunch in one easy swoop. :lolz:
