This though keeps going throught my mind. What if I go to the mall and get a bowl accident. I think the malls or not equiped with raised toilet seats so I can sit on the toilet. I get bowl accident because I have a sci. I went to the mall once with a friend in her car and I had a bowl accident. I had to take the bus all the way back home. I wasn't going to go back home with her in the car.

I think you mean a bowel accident, not a bowl accident.

How often are you having accidents? A good, well designed bowel program should be preventing bowel accidents if you are doing bowel care on a regular basis. We consider a good bowel program one that results in no more than two bowel accidents a year.

If you have a bowel accident in public, most likely you will need to return home to change clothing and clean up, unless you have your own van and can keep supplies there and change in your van.

I have bowl accidents all the time, especially when I'm having soup. It gets really messy. It's why I don't eat out anymore.

Malls should have raised toilet seats on the toilets.

personally i do not like raised toilet seats. i feel unstable and unsafe on them. but u do need to figure out why ur having so many accidents. do u check ur bowels before u go out? sometimes just exercising/moving can cause me to go so i check my bowels before i go out anywhere. sometimes food can trigger accidents as well

Haha yes just pick the bowl back up, or if it's broke get a new one xx pmsl xx

On the real note, take spare clothes with you and look into your bowel routine xx

It would be helpful to know what you do for your bowel routine. Are you taking any medications? Do you do it regularily? What kinds of food do you eat? Do you have sensation? Level of injury? With a little more information, we might be able to get you on track. Otherwise, I would tell you to look at the stickies at the beginning of the Care Forum and find the one on bowel care. It might give you some tips on things that will help.

If you were at a mall and crapped your pants, how would a raised toilet even help?

By that point you already have a mess and don't need a raised toilet seat, you need a shower to clean up in.

I can fill it in my face and shest when I'm about to have a bowel accident. So maybe I can make it on time to the bathroom at the mall.

I do it every second day. I take senokot and use a soppository. I don't have any sensation down there but I do fill it in my face and chest before I'm about to have a bowel accident. I eat anything.

I agree with the Spinal Nurse. The only time I ever get a bowl accident...is when I'm sick...rarely, but MAYBE twice a year. in a mall? um, push home dude...drive...whatever. never, EVER be with out a backup plan. I've been healing for a decade...only now, 10 years after I got hurt, do I have any real sensation of when I have to void from my bowel. It will come...meditate, feel, and pray

I really dunno Leah. The chances of a paraplegic let alone a quad successfully changing in a public place without living in a "world of " are pretty small. SCI sucks..so we fight for improvement, and we pray for the day when a biological intervention becomes available.
