Ok so after catching a clip from Chris Medina's American Idol audition last night and listening to his back story, I got thinking.... heck if a contestant gets all of this support for helping his fiance' who has a TBI how much support would an actual contestant with an SCI receive? Any comments/thoughts?

DO IT! It's about the talent and if you have it, I would try out.

Do it because you have talent...do not do it if the only reason is to get response because you are in a chair. You have the talent to succeed...chair or not.

I would definately do it based on talent and to further my singing career, absolutely not for the other reason!
I just was thinking about it because I always got the feeling that I wouldnt even be taken seriously because of the chair....etc. I am going to look into this!!

Go for it, Becky, but don't be too disappointed if it doesn't work out - they must go through thousands of applicants, and my guess is that it isn't based entirely on talent - there's probably a lot of behind the scenes politicking as well.
We'll all be wishing you the best of luck

Richard- Yes I know all about the "process" of auditions before the "actual" audition. I have had a handful of friends try to get in.

DD- I am wondering why you always seem to think that Im letting my life pass me by? I am graduating with my BME next May and looking into grad schools so I can teach voice and other higher level music courses to college students. How is this letting life pass me by? Im not asking to be mean or anything. Im actually curious!

Do it for yourself ,do it for publicity or controversy. Just do it.

Actually my wife and I have met Steven Tyler and the rest of Aerosmith several times on stage, back stage both before and after shows and they are very wheelchair friendly. Someone in the band I believe it's Tom Hamilton has a relative in a chair so they get it. As you saw in that episode of American Idol Steven Tyler was truly concerned and more than happy to greet that woman in the chair. I do think that contestant had a good voice and good enough to move on to LA despite his the background story.

Darty,
First off, cool pic :). Secondly, I completely agree!! I thought the contestant did a fantastic job. Mind you, I didn't see the competition so I don't know who was better then who or what not but from what I saw of his audition he absolutely had/has potential!

Not meaning to be mean Becky but you still live at home with your mom and from your other posts here you are letting life pass you by... I have listened to you sing on youtube and you sing just as well as he does.

Take some chances and get out and live is all I am trying to say....It starts with leaving your comfort zone that includes mom. You have lots of potential. You can do anything you want. Just make a plan and follow through...

Truly did not mean for my post to start a shit storm but you asked.

DD- I asked because I was/am interested for the answer. Thanks for providing one. I do disagree with you however! Yes I do still live with my parents. Yes I know that many here and others live on their own and that's fantastic. I have chosen to stay with my parents so that I don't have to worry about finding a place, getting acquainted to living on my own, and finishing up undergrad and grad school. I graduate from undergrad next may and then two years of grad school and I'll be done with school and can get myself a job which will hopefully bring in more money so that I can get myself a place. My mother/family is by no means my comfort zone. They are a necessity at this point if I am going to be successful in completing school.

As you can see, I have/have had a plan. Some plans take years to complete though! I guess everybody's idea of letting life pass you by is different.

Again, thanks for answering my question.

OMG darty, that must have been surreal!

I think S. Tyler has been kind to Cody Unser and her crew over the years, too.

Go for it, Becky! It's once in history that there has been an option like that, that approach and exposure I mean, for talent lie yours.

I do remember you linked your singing a while ago, but I remember that for some reason, I couldn't get the clips to play. :o

I'm not a fan of Aerosmith, but I think Steven Tyler was a great choice for a judge. He's funny.
I had no idea what kind of a person Jennifer Lopez was before seeing her on A.I. but she seems good so far. For some reason I always thought she was arrogant, but I think I got that wrong now.

Keps,

Thats right, I remember some people having issues getting the link to play :(. I am giving a concert the first weekend of April and it will be recorded. I will attempt to get it to work properly :). I think I also had linked it to my then myspace account. I'm not sure if that is still active though honestly.... I'll try with the April concert and see what happens!

Gosh I see what you are saying now. I re-read some old threads that I responded to you in and I sound like a broken record. But I wasn't the only one saying the same thing so I don't feel so bad.

I wish you the best Becky
