I looked at a lot of vertical lifts online and they are very expensive. I don't think it would be very hard to make one. Does anyone know how to make one? I only need to be lifted 18 inches to our platform to get in the house. I don't have room for a ramp.
Thanks
I have been thinking about that. I have a friend that could build anything. I would enlist his help.
What about a used one off of ebay or kijiji? Or a van wheelchair lift, modified?

Tons of killer ideas on youtube.
This is what I use to get to my basement from my garage. We took the wooden stairs out, put this in their place. Use a winch to pull it up, garage door track to guide it. 11 1/2 yrs on it s far without any problems.
Tons of killer ideas on youtube.
You sure? Pls explain how that route will help, thanks.

we are trying to figure out a way to get our son down our basement...without the expense of an elevator ...I know there must be other options. what is that and where did you get it? can you use it by yourself? who installed it?
i hope you don't mind but trying not to reinvent the wheel
thanks...peace

That's a good idea Kris about converting a used lift from a van and somehow modify it to the house. Does everyone agree this will work? If so, any input?
thanks

This where I got my inspiration. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bPjk8AgtZQ
The tracks are barn door tracks. I welded them to a strong steel frame made of 2x3" steel tube. Then I made a platform and I've been using it for a few months now with no issues. I did upgrade to a used Coffing chain hoist that I bought on Craigslist. The HarborFreight hoists just weren't getting it for me. I don't think they'd cause you any problems just travelling 18" up and down. I can send you more pictures if you want.

Home Depot man lift from ebay, I took the cage off, made an aluminum 5'x5' platform, max weight 500lbs, me in my powerchair are 430lbs, just have to make sure the batteries are charged.
