I may slightly redecorate my bedroom this year and get rid of the teddy-bear theme that has occupied my room since we moved in. I would love to hear suggestions since I'm not sold on any particular theme yet.

So far, I like these decals:

Pulp Fiction (http://www.etsy.com/listing/43397647/pulp-fiction-vincent-jules-movie-poster):

TIE Fighter and Tetris (http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/roundup/geeky-graphic-decalsroundup-110981):

Steampunk (http://tackysmack.com/product/steampunk):

While I love Vincent and Jules, I don't think I could do a whole Pulp Fiction room.

The Steampunk and Tetris decals come in pieces you can place however you like, so I could have the gears operating a lift to carry the Tetris pieces to the top, but I would probably tire of it quickly.

Thoughts? :)

A Lemmings theme would be pretty awesome, but none seem to exist.

Even better: a Steampunk Lemmings!

I like the steampunk and blocks as well. It would look good in the right setting but cheap in another setting so watch it!

I had no idea wall decals existed.

I <3 wall decals! May use them in my new place over my drafting table and art/fiber storage cubes. :)

Go for it, Steven.:thumb:

I've seen some cool ones on etsy Thanks! I looked through a few this morning and found some cool ones. I'm leaning toward incorporating this in my final design:

MEM, what kinds do you like? I'm considering an academic theme (big surprise!:D) with a steampunk-framed, chalkboard-painted surface on one wall.

Here's one I made for my wife. Cool! How'd you make it?

Have vinyl cutter. Make signs and stuff.

Have vinyl cutter. Make signs and stuff. Can you do multicolor things? And can the vinyl be easily moved elsewhere?

You? Academic? ;)

I prefer the unexpected in colorful pics or even symbolism. There is one set showing three warehouse hanging light pendants. Just three colors, but bold. Will see if I can find it.

Some of the decals come off when you want to move, lose the decal or paint. Others, not so much.

Some of the decals come off when you want to move, lose the decal or paint. Others, not so much. I think I have chosen my general theme—now to find the appropriate materials and layout.

There was a Lemmings 2: Tribes, with each tribe having subtle aesthetic differences. I want to borrow that idea and create an additional tribe: the Steampunk tribe. (e.g., builder Lemmings would lay gears instead of tiles, floater Lemmings may hang glide or descend in a hot-air balloon instead of using an umbrella)

The chalkboard-painted surface would still be there. :geek:

I have read that vinyl decals can be more difficult to take down and reapply than the contact paper kind. It would be great if I could just print out sheets of Lemmings that could be taken down and rearranged whenever I feel the need for a change in scenery, but I don't know what I would need for that.

This whole thing still needs more thought, but I think I'm headed in the right direction.

I used to do alot of wall stencils.

To help plan the larger stuff, before fully committing to a final design, use the rasterbator (http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/wizard.gas?Phase=1).

You upload an image, and select whatever output size you want (It'll go HUGE). The image will convert to halftone dots (like a newspaper) then print on an arrangement of 8.5x11" sheets.

From the decorator side... We have a couple of friends seriously into modern art. I like Peter Maxx but I would burn out having one of his paintings in my house very quickly. I appreciate his genius but it's not me. About 8 years ago I found a great painting by Ampara Garzon before she went too surrelism for me, well, us. We have had this rather large painting in our diningroom in Maryland since we bought it. Still love it and it fit perfectly in our new place in WI framed on the bottom by a marble topped structural piece a few feet in front of it with two columns (hiding the supporting beams) framing the sides as seen from this diningroom. We never tire of this pic that reminds us both of the Tuscan countryside outside a balcony to a restaurant we loved with a large olive branch in an aubergine colored water can and 3 bright but not over powering ribbons that end somewhere above the painting. To me it is a reminder that even the tree of life needs support sometimes. :) IOWs, don't go deep into your pockets for something you cannot love day after day. I like the color cubes myself. But an audience of movable professor types would be cool too.
