TiLite all the way. Quickies look nice, but I have some issues with the way they make some of their chairs.

I have a quickie-ti and I have no complaints. This is my first chair and am a lil curious as to why everyone always hates 'em? It hasn't given me any trouble in the year I've had it.

Seems like ti-lite is winning. I was nervous because the vendor I saw was making fun of ti-lite. He was saying, "it's your choice if you wanna ride around on a golf club." Said they were not as good because they didn't speacialize in chairs.

That dealer is full of s89t, The figure I've heard is that production at Ti-Sport/Ti-Lite is 80% wheelchairs. When I was at the factory last February it was pretty much all wheelchairs & just a few bikes on the line.

I have a TiLite TRa, and I don't like it. I tried a Quickie Ti and a TiLite ZRa last year. The Quickie Ti felt cheap and flimsy. I liked the ZRa alot better, but it has all the same adjustable stuff that my TRa has that I don't want. They now have a ZR, which is what I'm looking at now.

When I had a screw fall out of my TRa, I sent TiLite an email describing where the screw went. Within two days I had an envelope in the mail with that screw and a couple of extras.

My first is the Colours Boing simply because I need the suspension. Doc steered me clear of Quickie's XTR because it tends to dump people.

My next will either be an Eclipse or a Zephyr. My concern is I can't find people I feel confident in to measure me here--another reason I am thankful for an adjustible chair. When I get to the point where I am ready for a replacement, if I can go out of town to get my chair angles measured, then I will go with the zephyr. If not, eclipse it is.

the zephyr is a nonadjustable wheelchair, so you must be measured right the first time. colours wont even build one, unless they know the person taking the measurements knows what their doing.

the eclipse is straight forward measurment wise.

My doc and I had the it's-time-for-your-wheelchair discussion about 2 months ago. He said since I didn't have insurance and was self pay, that I could go online and check out all the chairs and see waht I wanted. He said he knew I would do that anyway. He said whatever I decided on, let him know and he would look at it. We have two DMEs in town. I went to one, was measured by two different people and got two different measurements. The other DME place wouldn't even talk to me without a script from my doc. I told them I didn't have insurance and he said this wouldn't be a problem for measurement. The DMEs said they have to process me like I have insurance-doesnt' matter that I don't have any. I was pretty frustrated. (I told doc I felt like Julia in Pretty Woman. All she wanted was to buy a dress!) Oh well, through both I wouldn't have a choice in what chair I wanted anyway since they only work with Invacare and Quickie.

I then went online and found "how to" on measuring and measured myself with assistance from a family member. I came up with a combo of the two measurements that i was given. When I ordered my chair, I went with mine and was thankful for the chair being adjustable. Doc approved the Boing, would not approve the quickie due to the dumping factor.

I haven't talked to John, but I ahve spent a lot of phone time with Ernie and Krista. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif awesome people. Measuring for the eclipse doesn't worry me since it is adjustable, but measuring the angles etc for the zephyr is a whole new ballgame. The nearest colours dealer is in Post Falls, ID - 124 mi away. That's where I will head for a measurement. Never been there, so it will be good for a road trip. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

Jadis,

I am sorry to hear about trouble with getting measuring. It is very hard getting dealers who truly understand every detail of sitting in a chair. For our measuring seminar I made appointment and got taught everything by two guys, one who designs chairs and a para that also is with design team for Sunrise (Quickie makers). Only you know how you can be truly comfortable in chair, and it is extremely difficult to explain to people without extensive knowledge of sitting in chair all day. That's why I tell everyone to be taught to measure and do it yourself. I have created a How To Measure Guide, since I do measuring and I use the chairs, to help people measure themselves. This way you aren't depending on an AB dealer who has no idea what being in chair is like. Anyone interested in Guide, or if there are any questions at all just drop me an email jeffsirko@livewellmedical.com.

jlaubham,

About TiLite, chairs are great and I have never had customer service issues. There really isn't much difference between ZR and Quickie Ti. Quickie's take less time to make and get shipped... I have had a quickie for four years, I keep it clean and all necessary parts greased and have never had problem. I'm getting new GT (same design as Ti but not titanium) cause I like a little color and don't need lighter chair.

They have less than three weeks to notify us but it probably won't be till last week of the deadline. We waited to submit until we got our medicare application processed because if you have medicare approval ,bc just approves you. However we hha to wait about 6 months to hear from medicare. We have an appeal with them too because we were originally denied due to not having a store front. You wouldnt't think trying to save people and medicare money would be so hard.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks Jeff! I am interested, my email is in my profile. Well, finding tires has been just as interesting. I went to the local bike shop (because I want mtn bike tires) and he said he couldn't help me, that I needed to go to the wheelchair place. So, I went to the WC place and told them what I needed "well you need to get those at the bike shop." I explained to them what the bike shop said "that's funny because they do our repairs on our tires/wheels, so I know they can do it."

WTH?

Booger ended up calling Colours and just asked them what size tires I need (26x1.95) and then said we would just go in and buy tires but not tell them what they were for. I can't even get in the store in my wheelchair because there is barely room for an AB to get through there. Everything is so crammed.

I have my mountain bike in the garage, but the tires on there are 26"x2.1 http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif The tires on both Booger's bike and our son's bike are 26x1.95. Figures.

I know in the grand scheme of things that my chair is going to be heavy. The suspension system alone weighs about 10 lbs I think. I would like to get a lighter/narrower chair for work so I can get around in smaller spaces in medical offices.

Jadis. The important size on a tire (mtn bike or high pressure) is the 26" part. The width, 1.95 or whatever does not matter for fitting a tire on the rim. You can put a wide range of different width tires on your 26" rims. Then all you need is a tube whose range fits the tire width you choose.

Thanks JP. I actually have 25" Twister rims, but was told it takes a 26" tire. Since my 2.1" will fit on my chair, I think I will use those, since I seem more confident because they are agressive tred - plus the width will be good for getting around when camping/hiking.

I have a thread about all this in the sport/travel section under camping.
