Altering urinary pH as a way to prevent UTIs is an old technique that is not very effective. Some bacteria thrive in more alkaline urine, some in more acid. Some stones form more readily in alkaline urine, some more in acid. Bottom line, the causes of UTI in people with SCI are nearly always related to something other than the pH of their urine.
