Two things are well within your control. First, moderate or eliminate smoking. Second, eat healthy foods. Don't worry about the blood pressure problem. High blood pressure itself is not the problem... it is the cause of hypertension that is bad... i.e. narrowing and clogging of arteries.
Exercise is a more difficult. Please understand, however, that this is not a problem just for people with spinal cord injury. It is a problem that everybody has. The solution will be different for everybody. For some, it may come in the form of FES, swimming, weight lifting, and other forms of exercise. The key to a healthy heart is to get the heart rate up every once in a while and getting the blood flowing through the system.
Wise.

DA, Dr. Young wanted to say in other words, you should become a subscriber to the Penthouse magazine and drink a glass of red wine while you study it :-)
dr young i cant believe you said moderate smoking. anyone who smoke should quite cold turkey. no excuses please.
what is a good diet dr young?
what about stress? you didnt address that.
during ad the heart pumps fast, should that be considered exercise?
the red wine will help, but the penthouse will stress me out more.

DA,
Are you capable of moving your head only or do you have some arm movement?

I've been using the Saratoga Cycle for 12 years. It is a table mounted cycle that you pedal with your arms. I put mine on a small restuarant table that I bought at a restuarant supply store. The Saratoga Cycle gives me a good aerobic workout, takes up little space, and I can use it independently.
