so, i love my chuck taylors (converses). they make my heels feel great and i notice that since wearing them, i havent had any pressure sores on my heels (YAY!!!)
but lately my right leg has been jerking a lot, so i knew something was up. well i checked and at the back of both ankles are some blisters. one each. so called the nurse and asked for some foam. but oh no, she has to come see it. so she agreed with me and just wants me to keep them covered and i have to go back to continuing to elevate my feet.
and i have switched to the payless shoes which hurt my heels but have padding at the back. tomorrow i will go to michael's or joann fabrics and see if i can get some foam to adhere to the inside of the chucks.
annoying as all get out

payless have chuck knockoffs?
annoying as all get outYou can't say that if you're from or in NY. It's a Western saying, and we're damn proud of it :nana: ;)

Don't stick anything to your skin as it will just tear open the blisters. This is a good example of why it is critical to check your skin on your feet every 2 hours the first couple of days that you get new shoes. I would recommend instead of padding that you cover the areas with a non-adherant dressing (like Telfa or Xeroform) and get shoes with no heel at all until your blisters are fully healed. Mules, flip-flops, or other types of sandles without a heel strap would be preferred.

Gotta agree with KLD that sticking your heels back in any shoes, padded or not, while there's healing blisters doesn't sound good. Backless shoes sound good on paper, but since losing muscle control in my legs and feet (especially the toe grip reflex), I can't keep them on my feet.
That said, Chuck Taylors rule!

the issue is that i cant put my own feet in backless shoes, they fall out when i go to put them on my footrest. and i dont wear sandals/flip flops (i think flip flops should all be burned) as they pose too great a risk to my toes to be broken/dont give heel support. i check my skin, which is why i caught the blister :P, but i've been wearing my chucks for 6 months now, with no issues. right now i have an old pair of shoes that r too big but have a velcro strap to keep them in place. sigh.. i miss my chucks. this used to happen all the time when i was a kid as the drs insisted i wore shoes all the time, even if i was playing on the floor. that stopped as my mom hated the sound of rubber being dragged on wood floors as i crawled around chasing my brothers.
my friend suggested moleskin as that what she uses cuz her shoes give her blisters there but obviously not gonna do that til i heal.
sci nurse: i'm not sticking anything to the area, it's just foam padding with no adhesive, i made sure that is what the nurse would give me, and paper tape on unaffected areas to keep it in place.
rdf: i lived in cali for a few years and my mom is from new orleans lol
i think i got these cuz my feet swell and i've been pulling some late nites studying/in the lab sometimes til 4:30am. gonna go find me some kid slippers to wear (omg i wonder if target still has those elmo ones??) yay for having child sized feet!

For the few times I had a blister on my heel,I cut out a small square window in the back of the shoes. No one see it, they give pressure relief to the skin and the air helps promote healing. If they are Converse, use some crazy glue so they won't fray

good idea! this blister is where the top of the shoe in the back meets the back of your ankle
i went to the good feet store (yes, that is the name), told them my issue and they gave me these pads to put on the back curve of the shoe to give it support so the canvas doesnt fold down + some cushioning. this seems to be a good idea! they also gave me some other pads too FOR FREE!!! :)
so far so good today! put my feet up when i could and that felt good.

I just got some jack purcell's and was pleasantly surprised to find they don't bother my feet at all, which usually prefer wide shoes.
I messed up one heel back in the day when I used to stuff my feet into inappropriate shoes so I have a bunch of backless shoes tho I where them mostly around the house so i don't have to worry about losing them if I have a major leg spasm.

yay they are healing and havent opened at all! the left side has no liquid in the bliter at all and is just a dark spot, and the right is almost the same. will continue with just the foam taped to them.
havent found slippers but i saw these and went "i can has??"
