Mr brother comes home tomorrow from the hospital he has been in for 3 months. How do we find out about the disablity acts and what he qualifys for on the internet? I have typed in so many things into the search engines and i am still not finding any answers? Does anyone have any suggestions or websites that they know of? Any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you, have a great day!!

um well, I'm not really sure what you mean by disability acts. If I had to take a guess I would call the local center for independent living.that is a good place to start. They can usually send you the right direction for almost anything.

His social worker or case manager at the rehabilitation center should have started this process, including applying for Social Security and/or state disability benefits, Medicaid, and other government programs. If not, this person did not do their job, and you need to complain and insist that they provide these services as an outpatient (for no additional charge, since they screwed up). If he was employed you should also check with his employer's human resources department to see if he is already covered bylong term disability insurance or long-term care benefits.
As far as disability rights, the first place to start is to become familiar with both the Americans' with Disabilities Act and your state laws that apply to disability and access or civil rights. The local ILC should be able to help with this. You can find your ILC at this site: www.ilusa.com (http://www.ilusa.com)
Get your brother on-line and to this community as soon as possible. There is a lot of support here for him as well as other members of your family. What a good brother you are to be advocating for your brother at this time!

Thank you for the advice and for the web site the hospital he was at was awesome, he as at St. Joes (Barrow nuerological institute), however the case worker was horrible and infact my brothers room mate comes out next week and they have the same case worker and she doesnt have anything put together for his roommate either. I will start with these, once again thank you, hopefully i will make some progress. Have a great day and God bless!!
