Just to get the ball rolling, I thought it'd be interesting to see where our 'family membership' lies. So tell us who you are! And if I've left out a category, I only had five lines to work with! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'll go first, since I'm here already http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. I'm Marmalady, aka Jackie, mother of Matt, my 27 year old son with a C4-5 SCI, as well as a TBI. I'm also a moderator of the 'Caregiving' forum, and have been with the CareCure site since its beginning.

Looks like you and I are the only ones to vote so far, Marmalady. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I am Jesse's Mom, Joey. Jesse is 23 years old, a C7, incomplete since Dec. 14, 2002. He lives in CA going to therapy and I live in Minnesota with my husband and our other son, Jesse's brother, Bert. We have a family business which is beekeeping.

I'm Martha, my children are Tatiana (tata489)and Ruslan (ruru482). Unfortunately their father--C7 quad, 27 years post--and I are about to divorce. However he will always be their father, and I know they are looking forward to meeting other children of sci's out there and talking about stuff.

For me, the entire Care/Cure forum has helped me to better understand my soon-to-be ex-husband. It has helped me sort out a lot of issues that hurt all of us in our little family--some of them sci related, others not.

Thanks again Wise, Jeff, Bethney, Marmalady, etc. What you do every day for all of us out here is incomprehensible. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi, my son Jason is almost 14 and became paralysed after a collision with another soccer player seven years ago. He suffered an ischeamic brainstem stroke ( basilar artery dissection ) and became locked-in. He is incomplete now, but still completely dependent on others for his care.

I've always only been interested in CURE issues since I feel there wouldn't be any care issues if we could just bring about the cure.

BTW Nanda, I was born in Bogota but have European parents

In addition to being one of the SCI-Nurses, I am the child of a mother with severe MS (EDSS 8.5) and act as her care giver when my parents travel or when I am visiting their home. They have a wonderful PCA who does her care most of the time, and of course my dad helps too, but he is 81 years old, so can only do limited things.

Hi Jesse's mom, I just noticed that your family's business is beekeeping, that is so neat. I've just started researching different types of honey and their applications.

Don't know if this counts but I used to be a child with an SCI, I was injured at age 8.

Glad you all found our site!

Abbers and book-sis - Not an intentional leave out - there are only 5 spaces on the 'post a topic' form. I wish I could add more, because I do feel sibs are as important a family member as anyone else - maybe our 'admins' can do something to add more selections, but in the meantime, know that we know you're there for your brothers and sisters!

Abbers, I read in your profile that you're a knitter too. I've been knitting since I was 9 or 10, and was knitting clothes for my baby sister at 11. In fact she and I are working on an afghan together for our parents' 50th wedding anniversary at the end of May.

How long have you been knitting? Are you working on something now? What's your favorite article to knit? I've knitted more sweaters than I can count, but unfortunately in south Louisiana, they don't get much wear. Oh well. They were labors of love ... I'm sure you know what I mean. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I definitely know what you mean. I used to complain when I'd go to craft shows and these beautiful hand knitted scarves and sweaters and things were SOOOO expensive, but now I fully understand why they are so expensive, as I am very slow of a knitter, apparently. I'm working on another Harry Potter scarf right now. I made one for myself and this one is for a friend. I picked up knitting last Christmas after I saw Morgan on TechTV talk about it and thought, "Hey, if she can do it, so can I!" LOL So I downloaded some instructions off the internet, got a book at the library, went to Wal-mart to buy some yarn and needles, and away I went. My needle collection is growing by leaps and bounds...and I have a ton of yarn that I've had for several months and never done anything with, but bought it because I thought it was pretty. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif I'm sure your afghan will be beautiful, though. I don't have the patience yet for big projects like sweaters and afghans...takes me long enough to do a scarf! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Abbers, I've seen the pattern for the Harry Potter scarf. That's quite an accomplishment! Both of my children (Tata and Ruru) like to knit sometimes, but not anything major. Like you, I've got tons of yarn I bought because I thought it was pretty. I've also got no less than 3 unfinished sweaters! Makes me sick. I spent $60 just on YARN for one of them (for me). Two were for Tata when she was about 9 or 10. She's 14 now--and a big girl! No point in finishing them now.

So far the afghan has been fun, but I'm having to try some new stitches, which makes me a little nervous.
