So last friday my comp went down..I started it up,it flashed some bluewords shut down and restarted itself and that was it,nothin...I gave it to a buddy who is computer guru..He got into it and found that the file named Explorer.exe was corrupt and did what it did..So he wiped out my harddrive and reformated everything for me...

This morning it did it again,but recovered (for now) and told me this same file is corrupt and unreadable....I dont know schite about computers,i dont know if what i typed even makes sense,but does anybody have any thoughts on this? cause when i shutdown tonight,it may not start tommorow...

Need more information such as the computers specs age and what operating system. While the computer is up and running why not check windows update and see if updating the Operating system corrects the currupted file. If you are running windows98 through ME (I think ME) you can go to start > run > and type msinfo32 and under the tools menu you can find the system file checker. There is a specific command to run this under 2k and XP by opening the command prompt and typeing (sfc)with no ( )it will give a list of switches to use in conjunction with the system file checker(sfc) that looks like this
/SCANNOW Scans all protected system files immediately.
/SCANONCE Scans all protected system files once at the next boot.
/SCANBOOT Scans all protected system files at every boot.
/CANCEL Cancels all pending scans of protected system files.
/QUIET Replaces all incorrect file versions without prompting
the user.
/ENABLE Enables Windows File Protection for normal operation
/PURGECACHE Purges the file cache and scans all protected system
files immediately.
/CACHESIZE=x Sets the file cache size
so typeing at the command prompt sfc /scannow will start the scan.

A fresh install leads me to believe you haven't got any of the updates for XP such as service pack 2, which should have a new explorer.exe file I believe. On dialup this can take forever and a day to do but getting all the updates for windows should I would think take care of this issue. There are 3 possible possabilities for this problem that I can think of off the top of my head.
1) The file on the CD is corrupt either because of a bunk CD or poor copy if it is a pirated CD.
2) It is also possible that you have a ram issue and you can find on the windows site a ram testing programhere (http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp). If your ram is going bad this can also cause a file to appear corrupt even though it is not. Here is how, Explorer.exe is loaded into upper memory and runs in the background, this is the GUI for windows. As it is loaded into RAM part of it is lost do to a leak or bad spot of memory. The system then sees the file as corrupt as part of it is suddenly missing while it is trying to use it.
3. The hard drive platter has a place that doesn't magnatize properly for what ever reason. A low level format can fix this problem.
These are extremes and not very commmon but the only thing I can think of that would cause your explorer.exe to be or appear corrupt even after a fresh install of XP.

Might try and get a spy sweeper, you never know how many thing's get hidden in hard drives. and they take over some program's I recently went to a Symatec and ran a diagnostic and they were not able to get into mine. but it showed what could be

I would recommend ordering Service Pack 2 CD from Microsoft, instead of trying to download this upgrade on a dial-up connection.

How often you choose to shut down your pc is up to you. Used to it was hard on processors and components to power off and on but today with surge suppressors and better electronic components it doesn't matter. If you like leaving it in stand by instead of shutting down fine. It is a personal preferance any more and no benafit good or bad from either shutting it down or leaving it running.
