It is hard to beat an IBM ThinkPad. You can get a good used T20 series from Ebay for around $350.00 plus shipping. I have 2 ThinkPads, a 600E and a T series. I have used Dells but the IBM's have a better keyboard in my opinion and the Track Point mouse is very easy to use. Go to this website for a review.

I'm on my second IBM thinkpad in four years. I also have my own tech business and nearly always reccomend the thinkpad for a laptop. Dell has far superior tech support but the thinkpad is still best.

Live life as you see fit, not as the world says.

trainman's right,

Look really hard at a ThinkPad. Think Ebay. Think $350.00 or so for a really good used laptop.

Whatever you get I recommend a notebook with a Pentium M processor (aka Centrino when paired with an Intel branded wireless card). Much longer battery life/lighter as less battery weight needed to power it.

I know this is an old topic, but a client I'm working for gave me an IBM Thinkpad model T42 to use in office and at home and I think I may be in love!
