Hello gang. I was made aware of the Saferhouse last week while researching wheel-in shower designs. Initially it was the elegance of their shower design that caught my eye. But after reading a little bit more and I was even more impressed. It could be the answer to the 'silver sunami' bearing down on us. Homes where we can age in place. And for us wheelers, a home that doesn't look like an institution. Some of you know me from my accessible solar house pictures (http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/showpost.php?p=1009172&postcount=9). I'd love to combine the two designs. Now that's sustainable.

Statistics show not only a need for housing that serves the needs of an aging population but housing that is designed to help them live safer, longer and happier lives. Not to mention the benefits of reducing home related injuries that result in an extensive loss to our economy, create a significant burden on our health care system and are a major cause of family hardship.
Up here in the Great White North, universal healthcare pays for broken hips and their aftermath. Bonus that the housing is great for wheelchair users. Open the areas under the sinks and stove tops can be easily converted back and forth for wheelchair users versus yuppies, so it's Vancouver condo friendly.
Just smart design and I love smart design.
