The CareCure Community forums are hosted by a company called Infopop and we use their software. They maintain the database and update the software occasinally.

The site has two interfaces that you can choose when you log in. The standard interface is compatable with almost all browsers. The advanced interface is not compatable with all browsers. Usually, the site will automatically detect the browser and switch you to the appropriate interface but it will default the user to the advanced interface if it does not recognize the browser.

The site may look different depending on the browser that you are using. Some browsers are not compatable with the site. I use a Mac but have tried almost every browser on this site. So, let me comment on each of the browsers that I have tried and perhaps other people can comment on their.

Safari 1.2.2. This is the standard OSX browser that is very fast on this site and it can do almost everything on this site except attach files to postings. I am not sure why but Safari goes through all the windows for selecting the file but somehow the file is not uploaded. I also like the spacing of the text and the picture display better on safari, i.e. it adjusts the graphic elements and display better. I use it for browsing and posting on this site but use Mozilla or Firefox for posting attachments. An alternative is to use the standard interface with Safari and I think that it will attach files.

Firefox 0.9. This is also a very fast browser on OSX. As far as I can tell, every feature of this site works on Firefox. However, there is too much space between the text and picture display is not optimal. Very large pictures sometimes will distort the graphic elements.

Camino 0.8. This browser is *very* fast and elegant. Based on Mozilla, it works with all features of the advanced interface of this site. Because it uses the Gecko engine, its text display has extra space between lines. On the other hand, I think that it works with all the features of this site but faster.

Mozilla 1.7. This works well with the advanced interface. While it is not as fast as Safari or Firefox, it works on more internet web sites than any other browser that I have. Like Firefox, the spacing between text lines is too wide but Mozilla handles oversized pictures well.

Opera 6.0.3. This browser cannot use the advanced interface and will default to the old standard interface. It is remarkably fast, particularly scrolling and pictures. It is a good browser to use with the site if you don't mind using the standard interface.

Internet Explorer 5.2 This is of course the standard. Although it is no longer supported by Microsoft (for the Mac), most web sites (including Infopop) use this browser to test their functions. This browser is slower and there are some quirks. For example, the drop-down menus on the advance interface tend to separate from the menu. But, otherwise, I think that most of the features of the advanced interface will work with Internet Explorer.

I wouldn't call IE "standard." http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif It doesn't fully support all HTML 4.01 specs. Mozilla's browsers fully support the W3C's HTML4.01 standards.

If you've ever done any web page design it can get frustrating trying to figure out why IE does what it does at times. Sometime when you rig something so it looks fine in IE, then it breaks it in other browsers. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif

jimnms, I agree that Mozilla is the browser that seems to operate the best with the most web sites. Safari works well with the standard interface and can attach files (I just tried). I should also mention Omni and Cab (two relatively less known browsers) for the Mac, both of which default to the standard interface and cannot handle the advanced interface.

Since I use Dragon Voice Recognition, I have found that Mozilla works in our chat room and IE6 does not. I use Firefox 0.9 and I have not tried it in the chat room. I will shortly. Overall IE6 works much better for me if I want to surf this site, hands free. If I use Mozilla 1.7 or Firefox 0.9, I need to use my Kensington Expert Mouse to navigate around this website.

Because there are security flaws with Internet Explorer, I try to use it only on this website and it is required for doing Microsoft Critical Updates.

The current version of opera is 7.5.3 and it works fine with this site. Just opened IE and the site looks the same in both browsrs.
