View Full Version : Screen not sized right?

Okay. I have found out that the browser resolutions for many of the people who visit my site have been larger than mine. When I work with my html, I use images and the text fits perfectly on my screen. Mine is a 800 x 600 screen. Therefore, I realized that possibly the visitors have not gotten the page to show at their browsers size. I hate to think that they may have also used a smaller screen and then have to scroll back and forth to view it correctly. Have been trying to find the way to get my pages so no matter what size they use, it will show right.

I was told that I could use tables with 100% but found that it would not work since I don't always use tables on my pages html. Recently, I saw a script that supposedly will help with this problem. I put it on the poem "Misty" but since I don't have a large screen, I can't tell if it does work or not.

Now my request if this .. would someone who has a large resolution screen check it out for me or if there is anyone who knows how to work with this problem that can give me any other suggestions. I would really appreciate the help.

PS: The above mentioned poem (http://www.ravensdreams.org/others/Misty.php) is here.

Thanks Paul and Steven. I just changed it again without that script. It seems it didn't help much at all then. The poem is viewable now but I guess you would need to change the resolution for your own screen. I will keep looking to see what else I can do to it so it will be shown better in everybody's screen. Hate for it to look all dumb in the middle of the screen for those with a larger screen. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Plz.

Raven, looks good and I do not need to change my resolution in order to view it.

carecure doesn't read HTML right, and I'm too lazy to figure how to post it. Here's what I initially wrote:

I run 1280x960, this is what it looks like with my browser full screen.

It looks fine to me, but it may not line up with the background the way you want.

IMO 800x600 is the minimum resolution anybody should be running these days. Windows XP even warns you if you try to set the resolution below that. If someone comes to your site running 640x480, screw 'em if they have to scroll. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Post a screen shot of how it looks on your screen so we know what you want it to look like.

When my friend used to have his computer store, we were amazed at how many people never changed from the default Windows resolution. One woman brought her computer in, she had a 21" monitor, and was running Win95 at 640x480.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I do want to thank you all for the suggestions given. Am still trying to figure the answer out.

Jimnms, the following is the way I would like the poem with the background to show.

I will be trying the different suggestions also during the day to see if it will do what I want it to do for the poem page.

Again, thank you all for your help.

Hey Raven,

If you're able to talk on the phone while online... send me a PT with your # and I'll walk you through it over the phone. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I agree with Lewis, though. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

I am set at 1400 x 1050 and I see the same results as Jimnms using IE on XP.

Should I say "Eureka"? I believe I have solved the problem with the poem page. If you would kindly check the url posted, see if it works for you if you have a higher screen resolution. I do need some feedback on this.

Thanks for all your help and patience with me in solving this problem. I did take a bit from some of the suggestions suggested here and by my son. Also, note that the scroll bar is transparent. He has it on his site and told me how to do it. He has been very patient with me too and it is from him that I got started on working on html and setting up my website. If he reads this, I want to thank him and will do my best to learn from him and all here too.

Jimnms, I changed the resolution in my pc to 1024 x 768 and it did give me the page as I wanted it to show. If you read my html, you will notice that there is a change in it. I have a script where I ask for it to change size and image when it is >1000. When I saw the background you took a pic of it, it shows a different one which is for the smaller size. I don't understand why it isn't giving you even the correct image. If at all possible, change the resolution to yours and see what I am speaking of.

Any one here having the same problems? If so, please let me know. I would appreciate it. Most of all, you will make this perfectionist happy(meaning me.). http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Finally! The rock has come back... j/k. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Seriously, my page is up now and working just the way I wanted it to show. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and help.

Jimnms, the problems seems to have been that you use Netscape and the script needed to be adjusted. From now on, I will do my best to get my pages to work for all. I will be working on reviewing the ones I have uploaded already and correcting this problem.

I use Mozilla 1.7. It looks different now, but stil now like the screen you showed. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.
