Alright guys/gals/Shaun I gotta pimp something. I am in my third week of working in Linux, and liking most of it, but it is still as if I landed on Mars, a lot to explore. These are cool places to visit if you are interested in Linux: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/index.php

Well, after Linux screwed up my SATA RAID array, washed out (for which I am lucky I backup) Windows, and refused to recognize my ATI 9600XT vid card supported 3D, I formated and re-installed Windows. I am now running Linux within a virtual PC config: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx
And thank goodness it has not screwed anything else up. Which, I did not catch when loading but I went through the manual (several hundred pages) and new Linux Kernels do not support hard RAID. The have what is called soft RAID. Hell, I am still a noOb to Linux, ask me a hardware question or about Windows, I can tell you, Linux is intimidating.

try Suse Linux next time. Your ATI won't use 3D unless you download and install the drivers from www.ati.com.. (http://www.ati.com..). As for the RAID and Windows, I suspect you wiped those out on your own during the install http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif Good luck and hang in there.

I am using SuSE Linux 9.1 pro. Ah, as for wiping them out, I saw hde1 - hde 6 and knew that windows occupied the first 4 partitions. The other two I set up for Linux. I set Linux swap for hde 5 and a resner format on hde 6. Linux killed Windows, somehow. I knew my settings, even wrote them down. Either way, it works now and I recovered 90% of my Windows.

If you're using SuSE 9.1 then you can download and install the ATI patch using YAST online update.

Wow MAtt, what a question. I am a noOb to Linux so it would be hard to answer you question. The reason I am trying it out is because it gives power users more control, more software, at less of a price. Less than 5% of the world's personal computers use it. More personal use is logged in Asia and Europe. I like what I see, but I feel I can't leave my training wheels yet.

Tandy 1000, man I started out on one of those.
The comparison between Unix and Linux, I am not knowledgeable yet to answer that. Get rid of all your others with the exception of anything with XP Pro.
Get that paper in http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif.
