I'm borrowing a friends computer and it has Norton Antivirus on it. I could not access my yahoo and msn messenger because of the security on Norton. So I managed to shut the security off twice and get my IMs going. Now it says it's still off but they aren't running again. I do have Auto-Protect disabled too. WTF is going on? I may die without my yahoo http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif
Please help me

I am not sure if your friend has just the Norton antivirus or the Norton Utilities program? Sometimes Norton wants to play God and it can be difficult to turn some programs on or off. Norton may not want to play nice with Yahoo or MSN Instant Messenger.
Does your friend use Yahoo or MSN messenger on this PC? Norton is an excellent antivirus but the utility suite can be difficult to deal with for some people.
You may want to try downloading the newest version of Yahoo or MSN Instant Messenger.

It sounds like they might have the norton firewall on there. The antivirus shouldn't mess with Yahoo IM. Look for a way to either disable the firewall, or tell it to allow yahoo access.

Ok I had enough and uninstalled Norton. Not the safest route but my friend said it's ok and it's his computer...so whatever. Thanx for the suggestions though. I now have my messengers back and I'm not racking up more hours in CC chat http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
