We purchased a timeshare through Wyndham three years ago after we visited their marvelous (w/c accessible) facility in Williamsburg, VA. The sales rep told us that if we liked this facility, we would love their other sites and we could use RCI for a minimal transfer fee. Long story short-Only a few sites had w/c accessible units and most of them were booked for years ahead. Wyndham did not understand what w/c accessibility is, once booking us in a unit with 3 steps. Other than Williamsburg we could only get one other location, and that was only minimally accessible. I wrote to management and after 6 months was able to get my money returned. I thought it was a good concept, so I continued to look for companies that specialized in w/c timeshares, but unfortunately could not find any. If you would like to visit Williamsburg, you can probably get a free weekend and visit from Wyndham. If all of their units were like Williamsburg, I would still have the timeshare. Should you find a timeshare you like, negotiate like crazy. You'll have to listen to their spiel, and they won't let you leave until you make a decision. Take advantage of the situation and get them to throw in extra points, lower the price, and include other benefits, then leave anyway. You can think much more clearly if you and husband, wife, partner discuss it away from the pressure. Be aware, this is not a quick process. You will be engaging in a formal real estate transaction. However, if you are assured that you can get the kind of accessible vacation sites you want, it will be worth it. You'll have multiple sites to choose from, and it removes the guesswork from picking a vacation location. Also, the Williamsburg facility was nicer than any hotel we've ever been in.
