I have found a lot of popup removal programs at ZDNET but was wondering if anybody had a favorite as to which program may work best at preventing these Popups.

I have the Google toolbar and it has a pop up stopper. I had popupstopper.com and it worked well also.As long as they stop the ads and dont track you there good.

most current flavors of Mozilla do the trick. I use Safari for OSX.

Below is what AOL suggested to do using the operating system. I followed the instructions, so I will let you know if it worked. I don't know if it will compromise the messenger sevice, probably will but may have to try something else if that item is needed.
---------------------------------------------
-- Click on the Start button in the taskbar
-- Open Control Panels
-- Go to "Administrative Tools" (XP users may need to go to "Performance and Maintenance" first, then "Administrative Tools")
-- Double-click on "Services"
-- Scroll down to "Messenger"
-- Double-click on "Messenger"
-- Change the Startup type to "Disabled"
-- Click "Stop" to stop the service
note: to disable, I had to go to properties in File on the top tool bar after clinking on "Messenger"
P.S. - it seems to be working, no popups in 30 minutes, http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Those are a different kind of popup, but still a good thing to do.

I also use Mozilla. If you use that bugg ridden, virus hole, Internet Explorer with an additional popup blocker, test it here:
http://www.popuptest.com/
I tested it with Mozilla 1.4 and there were only two types of popups that got through. A new v1.41 is out, and in the list of changes it says improved popup blocking.

I used Firebird which is a stripped-down version of Mozilla. Great product and not a bad download for anyone that is using a modem. Mozilla Firebird (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/)

Mozilla has pop-up blocking.
Find it under edit | preferences | privacy & security.
'Cource sometimes you have to turn it back on to get the requested new window, such as the "virtual account number" window at citicards.com.
Overall, it works great- I get absolutely no pop-ups.

I've noticed that Mozilla's pop-up blocking works better in the OS/2 version (never a pop-up) than the Windows 98 version (occasional pop-ups get through.)

Since I've been using Mozilla I have not seen one popup. I recently installed the Google Toolbar for IE6, and so far no popups.
