I'm looking for pictures of home modifications for a presentation to area Realtors. Have you made modifications to your home that you're particularly proud of? Are you willing to share?

I am proud of the work being done here in the Phoenix area to allow Realtors to address accessible home modifications in a comprehensive manner. As far as we know, we're the first in the nation to do this on such a broad scope. Our MLS system is being reprogrammed to include accessible features.

My partner in this effort is fond of saying that we have 16 parameters to locate the perfect garage but no way to search for grab bars.

I hope that the awareness we bring to this market niche will also increase general awareness that PWD live full and active lives in the community. I am still surprised when I meet people who are suprised by this. One guy actually did ask "wouldn't they be more comfortable in a hospital or a nursing home?" So, yeah, still a LOT of work to do. In the process of making this happen, I've become a Realtor specializing in accessible housing here in Phoenix so that I can have a voice in the process.

There are also still stereotypes that we're poor, accessible features are unsightly and that modified homes are rare. So, I'm especially eager to show slides of high-end, well thought out solutions.

I'll need you to sign a photo release and tell me if I you wish to be acknowledged or if you'd prefer not.

I really really need to send you our photos ... we have a gorgeous bathroom remod and lift system. I promise to look for those tonight and if I can't find them I'll take more. Except I'll have to clean up first! :o

Realtors are the wrong target market, IMO. It'll help awareness, sure, but if you want to make waves, your primary networking should be with builders. Push "barrier-free" vs. accessible/ADA-compliant. If homes are barrier-free and adaptable to a variety of needs, buyers will have lots more choices... and that's a good thing.

My brother and I ran a real estate photography business for several years. I know how the majority of real estate agents think... and most are nothing more than glorified car salesmen. There are certainly some outstanding agents, but they're not in the majority.

Just food for thought. :)

Specifically targeting Realtors for this presentation because we've pushed through some changes to the MLS system and Realtors will have to deal with accessibility in a comprehensive manner. I'm proud of the work we've done but we still have a way to go.

So, if anyone can help with pix, I'd appreciate it very much.

Fair enough. Kudos on the efforts!

Sorry Scott. I'm tired and that sounded really snarky. Not intended. BTW, we're working with the local CIL and others to make this work. So I do take your point.

Thanks for that. Have you seen Albert Ayala's "The Right Space" it's very well done as well.

I need photos. Especially high-end photos to show first what real-life mods look like and second that they are not all ugly, cheap and intrusive on the home design.

Thanks for the resource.

Here is a photo of my bathroom I had remodeled. I had to have a hot tub installed so I could soak for hours on a bad day.

Daniel, is that a regular fiberglass tub/shower with the shower chair on the right side of the photo?

Here are a couple of pics from my house in Chandler, AZ I am very happy how my kitchen remodel went. IMO it doesn't scream wheelchair accessibility, but has everything I need.
In this first pic the doors under the cooktop open and slide back. The controls for the exhaust fan and light were moved down under the cooktop. They can't be seen with the doors closed. Pot filler above cooktop so you don't have to try to roll with a full pot of water. There are cutting boards that slide out at my hight on each side of the cook top under the first drawer. All the lower cabinets are slide out drawers so you don't have to open doors and try and reach in.

I don't have any good pics of the sink but it has the same doors that slide back as under the cooktop. Here is a pic of the back side of the kitchen with a lowered countertop. Plugs on either side that are easy to reach.

This pic doesn't show much accessibility but you can see the lowered counter on the right.

I could probably get some pics of my bathroom remodel if you would like just let me know. I can also get high res pics of the ones I posted.

I thought I would share a picture of my walnut wood wheelchair ramp. It is the same walnut as the rest of the floor...
