Does anyone use HAL 2000 to automate their home/apartment?

I am almost done setting up my home automation and was wondering if anyone else has made any attempts.

Things I have automated already:
1. Window shades
2. All Lights (including my neon signs)
3. Fish tank light
4. TV, DVD, cable, receiver, simplify music box

Now I am working on setting up room scenes, full apartment modes , and other macros.

HAL 2000 works pretty good and allows all of the automation through my computer using voice. Also, I can have both HAL 2000 and Dragon NaturallySpeaking running at the same time. Works pretty good.

Lewis, I have been at a person's house that had HAL setup, but she didn't have it working beyond the default setup.

Enjoy! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Lewis, what you have done sounds really neat.

I was wondering if you have gotten Dragon to recognize your dog's bark to call somebody if you get into trouble. Seriously, what do you do if you have an emergency and cannot speak for some reason?

I haven't tried HAL2000, but I have light switches and lamps controlled via X10 from computer or remote. My next project is infrared deadbolt locks controlled by remote. The best thing I did was install the X10 switches and purchase a Sony Touch screen learning remote. My wife install most all of the switches. Smarthome (http://www.smarthome.com) can help anyone who needs technical information and they have some great products.

I have not really thought about it... and I don't really have a solution.

Most everything I have operates off of voice. Dexter is still learning his ABCs http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
