Hello everyone. I've been a quad for 8 years and always talked about trying different wheelchair sport. The key word is "talked" but never did. I just had the opportunity to try out Quad Rugby today and it was awesome. I'm hooked! I wish more woman would do "the typical guys" sport out there.

Something in sport we need to "boo" them is:
Women gets an extra half point handicap for being a woman on a team. (rugby) boooo!

What type of sport do you do? or would like to do?

Lol China, Congrats, it is a great sport. I remember when Duncan Campbell started what was then called Murderball in Manitoba Canada. It was mostly comprised of quads who were ex hockey players. They all came out in their old team jerseys with their teeth out. No rules at all back then, was even a few fights. they played in the old E&J folders. No ridgids back then.

Its good that you get an extra 1/2 point off. that mens you can be an awesome player at 1/2 point down and that allows your team to put a higher point person.

Are you playing in Edmonton or Calgary. Both have some great teams. Way to go, it will become a part of your life.

I play (and start on) an all mens wheelchair basketball team...and I get to play one class lower than what I am classified at. That only helps my team...because then they can have more points on the floor if I am playing.

I have also played sled hockey, wheelchair tennis, done track and field, handcycling, and water skiing. I love sports (if you could not tell).

Wow, that's great. I think I'm going to try rugby for the Edmonton team. What level of SCI is everyone at?

I would like to ski too, but the equipment cost more than 10 000 dollars and it is not possible to buy it used. And I am not sure if the AB skiers would like me in the ski track, they are angry on dogs and children there

I think I'm going to try cross country ski this winter. We have a disabled ski rental place here in Edmonton.

You are going to like it, it is so much fun and so hard to go uphills so you have to be strong and it is so fun downhills.

I recently went kayaking a couple of times. It felt great ... and except for a little balance issues, it was the same as pre injury. (I am t7-8).

Only problem is I need someone to guide my transfer into it, and it is a 2 person job to get me out of the kayak.

I have tried kayaking...but my issue is that I cannot seem to go straight...I always veer to the right. Guess my left arm is stronger than my right. :)

I enjoyed rugby, before kids - now I'd love to get a cross-country ski setup and a handcycle so I could do it with my kids. Too expensive though...

I've road raced, did my open dive for SCUBA, I like tennis as I don't need much help getting ready.(C6 complete)

Quad rugby scares me...and skiing...nope too cold for this quad.

Handcycling is my next endeavor, but I need help getting in/out that I find it frustrating.

I'd like to sail if i could find the $$ and time.

I just surfed this past weekend for the first time since standing. Atlantic taste the same. I may do this again.

I was the only woman...:-(

Snow skiing has been my best sport, but I live in the wrong part of the country for fresh powder. Still, there is nothing like it. Skiing is the only time I have felt free: of slowness; of physically struggling; of being so self-conscious; free of my body. Ever. In my entire life. Reading what I've just written lets me know I need to make it happen more often.

I went hang gliding with another pilot on bar. Talk about a cerebral sport! That's funny to me because I was rendered monosyllabic post-flying. The only thing my then b/f and I could say for two days after catching wind and sky was, "Wow ..."

H2o skiing is a blast. I participated in an h2o ski clinic about fifteen months ago. As long as I live in a city where one is held (and my health cooperates at ski time), it'll be an annual event for me.

Fishing is something I enjoy and yes, I'm categorizing it as a sport because it involves nature, equipment, my body, movement, thinking about how to use my body and equipment to catch fish. November will be my month this year for saltwater fishing.

I like jet skiing, but fall off a lot. Friends have to scoop me from the h2o and put me back on the machine. Thank goodness for kill switches, PFDs and patient friends.

Miss Liz, hope there are more women surfing with you next time. Somehow I think someone, maybe even you, will perfect that post wave hair flip. ;)

I've gone surfing a few times. I really want to get involved in wheelchair tennis and kayaking. My friend wants me to play basketball as well. Next step is trying to get a sports chair!

What type of sport do you do? or would like to do?

Does mixing cocktails count as a sport? No? OK, then the only sports I've ever been interested in have been horses and cars. I was an equestrian before my accident and I road race now.

One of the things that I like about motorsport is that with equal equipment, disability* and gender are irrelevant.

* I do realize that there is a limit to that.

I won't dare try rugby now...knowing me I'd get hooked and that's all I need, something else to take up my time! LOL! Seriously though, would LOVE to try downhill skiing...I used to ski when I was a teenager and miss it! The other thing I'd like to give a go is horse back riding...used to do 100km. endurance runs and rode with the Ecuadorean cavalry for a while (long story)...though I doubt it would be possible to ride without the leg control...at least not like I used to (walking around in circles is NOT riding, IMO).

Not all race cars cost a million dollars. In fact, just about any street legal vehicle can be taken to the track with a number of different car groups. Auto crossing is a great way to get into racing, too.

Currently I run a supercharged Mustang in club racing, but the car was originally built to run in SCCA Pro Racing's World Challenge GT class. We never got the car fully sorted at that time, so I was pretty much a back marker in the pro series, but I don't see any shame in losing to guys like Andy Pilgrim, Max Papis and Derek Bell.

It's not quite the same. However, I've found a passion in linguistics, which only requires an articulate tongue and bright mind to master.

I look forward to skiiing/boarding again. I used to be fairly advanced preinjury and I'm hoping some of my prior experience will prepare me to give it an adaptive go this winter. My hats off to anyone who currently participates.

I used to horseback ride. I'm a t6-t8. I know a lot of people with SCIs that play power soccer & really enjoy it.
