I'm thinking about purchasing a home E-Stim unit. Do any of you have any suggestions as to which model and where to order from? Thanks.

dude..get the CHallenge 800 A..the guys like this Physical therapy DOctor and profesor at Loma LInda University.he made it for his ex-wife and also..hes like a Nobel Prize Nominee for his research..its the russian stim.not the weak ones best used for pain etc etc..if you want to help muscle and spasms and generel circulation help..get this one..but its used mainly in Hospitals and Rehab places..so u need a doc's approval..not too hard..most docs that dont know about SCI and u tell em.. youve used it in P/T and theyll write it for you..just a general electrical stim prescription will work..runs like 3-4k though..but soo worth it..im a college student 5 yrs after my injury c6-c7 incomplete..like a para and my legs still look shaply and toned..its awesommmme. so..if u have any detailed q's..call Loma Linda University in CA..ask for the P/T dept for Dr.Petrofsky. Hey JDR,
Did you end up getting one of these?? I am also interested in buying one and was wondering if you found either one of these posts helpful or if you searched on your own?? If you have bought one, how much did you end up paying, and did your insurance pay some of the cost??
Thanks

I'm bumping this back up....

I really really really want to purchase one to help with muscle atrophy and to help stimulate some of these tummy muscles that arent exactly working anymore.

Please give me a few suggestions!!!!

JDR I bought one ofthese (http://www.allegromedical.com/electrotherapy/ems_nms/biomedical_life/biostim_digital_nms_neuromuscular_stimulator.P1900 67) a year ago and have been pleased. My rehab pt used this one. Usually get about 20 or so hrs on a set of batteries and can pack it anywhere and stim anytime.

i use this it works pretty good

NM III, a neuromuscular stimulation system designed to help rehabilitate injured or diseased muscles by delivering small pulses of electrical current through electrodes applied to the skin. The pulses pass through the skin and activate underlying motor nerves resulting in muscle contractions to help maintain or increase range of motion, re-educate muscles, relax spasms, and increase local blood circulation. Fully programmable, customized neuromuscular stimulation (NMS) exercise cycles are specific to a patient's therapeutic needs. Lightweight, wearable and battery operated, NM III is designed for patient use at home or work.

Justin,

I have the EMS+2 E-Stim machine. I have had no problems with it. It's made by Rehabilicare. The people are cool there and always call to see if I need anymore electrodes, etc. My little brother, being as lazy as he is http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif, uses it on his abs too (and he's AB). Works pretty effectively. Good luck.

If you want any info, lemme know.

P.S. Hope you've learned your lesson about the Oreo milkshakes and beer. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I wanted to add this from my own experience. I have the older model of the Neuropulse and if your muscles have already atrophied away, it's hard to build them back up if the nerve connections arent there. My left calf muscle is atrophied and I stimulate it the same amout as I do the right calf. It doesnt look nowhere the same and my doctor said it's b/c I dont have as much nerve connection in my spine for that leg.
I also would higly recommend a stim unit that is specifically for paralyzed people. If an ab person can use it and it can be purchased without a Rx, it cant be strong enough to give the paralyzed muscles the stimulation they really need.
