I've already asked a couple of people in PM this, but I would also like to get the nurses opion.
For those of you who have a Mitrofanoff or Monty (sp), what do you use to cover yours? Does your Mitro/Monty seep much?

Most people don't have much seepage and don't need to cover it at all. Others use a regular bandaid. If it is seeping more than that, you need to talk to your surgeon.

What about blood? The Dr said a little blood is normal, but with the seeping, I get a light red trail of blood/seepage.

When was your surgery?

My original surgery was May 15, and the revision was Aug 27. The Dr said a little blood in the catheter is normal. Is this not true?

I don't cover mine at all. the stoma is in my belly button. Once in awhile I'll have a dime size wet spot on a shirt during my period.

I have never had blood seepage. I may scarath the "pathway" and have a small spot of dark mucous, but that's in the bag.

My ileal conduit/augmentation was in '96.

Since yours is only 1-2 weeks old, I would not be concerned about a little bloody drainage. Cover it with Telfa and hypoallergenic tape for now. If it is still seeping a lot in another 2 weeks, call your physician.

I have another follow up appt in 3 wks, so I guess I can give it that long and see what happens. I'm so close to saying the hell with it and let it close up and try something else. I'm definitly not happy with that way things have gone with this Dr and the whole nine yards.

Thanks KLD.

Give it a little more time before giving up. It takes a bit before your body will adjust to not leaking out of this new passageway. It will get there though. I felt exactly like you after my surgery and the doc asked me to be patient. He was right.

Mine (done in 2006) still leaks a little - mainly if I let my bladder get too full. To cover, I just use hypoallergenic tape and 2 pieces of folded gauze; a self made band-aid that absorbs a little better.
