Vimperator (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4891) is a pretty cool Firefox plugin that puts a new spin on browsing. Anyone familiar with Vim should give it a shot. (Anyone not familiar with Vim (http://www.vim.org) might also like it.)

I like browsing in multiple tabs, so the keyboard shortcuts—gt for next tab, d for close tab—are a huge benefit to me.

It takes a little getting used to, but it seems to be worthwhile after a few days of using it.

Screw that. I have had enough instances of hitting escape, then losing whatever it was that I typed. I think I'm mostly over that now, and this plugin would bring that back with a vengance.

I'll leave vim for programming.

Makes Bloatzilla work a bit like Lynx, but not EDbrowse.
I just tried it and I got a whole lot of screen back.
Will try it on 800x600 laptop.

The first thing I found annoying was opening bookmarks since my Bookmarks are/were optimized for minimal keystrokes, but then I read about QuickMarks and visiting CareCure is now two keystrokes quicker. (goc vs. Alt-B+F+C+C)

Disabling the beep (http://benatkin.com/weblog/2009/01/22/how-to-really-disable-the-bell-in-vimperator/) is also useful, as are the Ctrl-Z and Ctrl-V keys.

zagam, have you tried it on your 800x600 laptop?

Cory, did you ever try it?

Vimperator works anywhere Firefox does, including Windows 7. :)

I am a VI user and can use the ':', but it seems to be a bit clunky. Is it the Java?

I am running Debian Iceweasel which uses a free Java implementation.

Fits the old toilet seat (clamshell iBook) SVGA well. SVGA is good size for 12" and X11.

I don't think it's Java. The command line mode sluggishness (i.e., tag and bookmark completion) may be due to the Javascript, however.

I prefer the non-command line, non-insert mode—especially since I realized that hint mode allows keyboard access to form controls; f## is a LOT quicker than tabbing through to get to a non-text input form element.
