hopin' some of my puter buddies might know what's going on.
i've got my linksys wrt54gs hooked to my xp desktop. my wireless lappy with vista is in the kitchen.
i've tried wep, wpa, tried setting security on desktop first then laptop first. everytime it kills my connection on my vista laptop.
the only way i can connect is to have security disabled on both.
any ideas ????

Don't know a thing about Vista. Under XP you can configure security on the router and save the network settings to a thumb drive to enable your other machines. One helpful thing for me was to continue to broadcast the network name until I got everything sorted. Are the cards in the two machines the same technology? I run a 80211.b/g mix.
Security can be tricky sometimes. Other times it all just works first try. If it fights you too hard, take a break and start over fresh later.
Good luck.
Can you get a successful secure connection configuring just the laptop on the wireless router?

here is a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6ndKXbiusc
it will show how to set it up it's a good video use wpa2 if it there or wpa if not it's better than wep.

I had to call tech support to get my wireless N working properly. Setup was actually very easy and straight forward. All green lights at first setup but my laptop could not pick up the network. They (cisco linksys) gave me an url to d/l the latest software (not linked or mentioned on their website) then had to configure it in ways not even mentioned in the very light instruction sheet.
In short they should have on the box - "Plug it in and call us." so you don't have to fuck around with it for an hour.
