Let's assume that A Totally Random Guy That's Not Me (ATRGTNM) runs across 40 paperback books that a) are out of print, b) are not available in digital format, and c) the current publisher has no intent of republishing.

Let's further assume that ATRGTNM intends to scan said books so he can read them in digital format, but hates the fact that he may have to "sacrifice" the books to do so. (Because doing so with these particular books amounts to sacrilege. Or something.)

Are there any relatively inexpensive services (a national chain?) that could carefully remove the book covers (plus glue/binding) and rebind them at a later date?

If you know of any, ATRGTNM would be eternally grateful.

...or so I hear.

Signed,

Not ATRGTNM ;)

Potentially better solutions for ATRGTNM:

The Book Ripper Project (http://bkrpr.org/doku.php)

DIY High-Speed Book Scanner from Trash and Cheap Cameras (http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-High-Speed-Book-Scanner-from-Trash-and-Cheap-C/)
