If you don't already have one, you might consider getting a processor.

As long as it fits 775, which means a dual core is cool yeah?

I think you mean an Intel Core 2 Duo, and not a Duo Core. You can go with AMD, but Intel has the better chip. One of our members sent me an e-mail with a link to Newegg (http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8960306&WishListTitle=Build08) when he was building his computer. I don't think you save any money by building your own machine and if there is a problem, you don't really have a good warranty. However, it is a good learning experience.

Intel has the i7 processor and the Intel i5 will be coming out in September. I think this is beyond your budget. Windows 7 will be debuting on October 22, 2009, so it looks like you will be getting Vista or Windows XP. If you get Vista, then inquire about the upgrade to Windows 7, if there is one for people who are building their own machines.

socket 775 is intel so you can't fit an amd cpu on that board.

if you think dual-core is cool... how about those quad-core's. :) while it's fun you get to pick every single part, it's true you really don't save money especially if you want the latest hardware. i remember the best place to shop for parts is newegg, it still is now i think?

parts list..

$45.99 4gb ram --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178164

$79.99 1tb hd --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152173

$72.99 intel cpu --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116074

$59.99 video card --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133245

$89.99 hd tuner --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116016

$59.99 bd-drive --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106325

i would also replace that tiny 250w power supply unit. and don't forget the monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. as you can see... it adds up. :)

New egg is great for parts.

I bought a Wolfendale dual core processor that was at 3.0 and it was so easy to over clock to 4ghz.

What do you plan on doing with this system? Do you really need a solid state harddrive? they are super expensive and not really worth it in my opinion not yet at least. Especially if all you plan on doing is surfing the web. Also I hope you don't plan on gaming on that system because integrated graphics cards really are bad when it comes to playing games that arn't like deer hunter 2005.

if you build your own system and overclock you do save a TON of money. Overclocked processors and graphics cards are $100 of dollars more if you don't do it yourself. Also its just good knowledge if you know how to build your own computer so when somthing breaks you can fix it.

Does that kit come with ram? If it doesn't get 2 gigs of ram and you will be fine, even if you have vista. Make sure its DDR2, not DDR3. you'll also need a dvd drive of some sort if you don't already have one.

Also DEll and all the other big guys out there don't build you a system with all the best parts, and if they do you pay the price for it and then some. They usually screw you with a bad powersupply or cooling. Also the graphics cards will sometimes be cheaper suck ones as well as the sound card. If however you build a gaming system from say dell, you pay more than you would if you just build it yourself.

Look for a cpu/matching RAM combo deal.

Keyboard & mouse?
