Hi Gang
Recently in my Rural area of Tx I got the ok from a hospitl bigwig to start a SCI support group and soon I'll be working towards making my goal work
To help other people
Everything takes time and soon i'll work on a network and i'll need SCI injury / Welness info packs to distribute
I've been wanting to do this for years and things are starting to fall into place .
I'll let ya all know what it'll be called and what topics or specialties this SCI organization foundation block needs or has resource wise .
I do this all from my heart and even if it's only once a month get together
It is a start Right ?
Sincerely
Gypsylady
Any info Dr Wise has or anyone here about this I really appreciate from my heart
Sincerely
Gypsylady

Hey Gypsy, We started one in my county 11 years ago. We are small but very close. Last count we had 45 on the list. Unfortunatley, the list grows longer evry year but at lest they are not leaving rehab to nothing anymore. Ages range from 9 to 77 years old and newly injured to over 36 years post SCI. So very diverse but welcomed.

Hi Patrick Madsen
I am soon looking forward to getting this concept going in my area
The numbers vary because of same reasons people not leaving rehabs etc... but I will give it a try ...
Theres lot's of Disabled folk in my area but few step up to the plate . I've looked for years and had no luck it was weird I mean people in TX have Farm horse accidents and ATV accidents or Motorvehicle accidents and so many people so Shy . Then again it depends on the location where I live is Very Country Not City
So I Spoke to this person at the hospital and a social worker friend of mine and I got the Gumption to go for it . They gave me the ok to work on it so I am ....
We shall see
Anything is worth a try when it comes to Humanity
All we can do is Try and Do our Best Right ?
Thank you
sincerely

Way to go Gypsy, it will not only change your life but will also beneifit those new SCI's and their families. They are so lost by the whole experience and the ins and outs of the medical system. Our first meeting only one person showed up. Now we have dozens at times. It is amazing how many go thru rehab, what there is of it now-a-days, and basically go home and vegitate because that is what they think is expected of them.
If there is anything I can do, please pm me and we can chat. One thing you might look at is going Non-profit. I think it was 10 dollars, Wash.State, to get the 501(c) and 10 a year. It enabled those in the group to buy equip.etc for wholesale prices, which can be as much as 40%.
Again Congrats on taking the initiative. Presently, we have a couple of young ladies, 19 and 20 now, who are just boggling my mind at how well they are doing.I trust the group played a big part in their realizing there is a good life after injury, even at so young of age.

Patrick, you are in Whatcom County, right? Do you know of any other support groups in the Puget Sound, other than in Seattle?
