I recently heard that soy products depress thyroid activity. i'm concerned because i have been drinking 1-2 glasses/day for years. if it was causing a problem, would i see it now or could it surface later on? what would be some symptoms?
i've stopped drinking it now.

This is a good question. I've heard that it alters estrogen levels in females and can be harmful.

Lots of foods are said to be harmful to thyroid levels (nuts, strawberries for an example) but .. as with everything .. moderation.

Googling estrogen and soy consumption brings up some conflicting reports on the effects.

The thyroid requires iodine & tyrosine. Organic dulse & organic raw pumpkin seeds are good sources, respectfully. According to Michael Murray, ND (in Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements): - Hypothyroidism can result in (among other things): "muscle weakness & joint stiffness... tenderness and muscle and joint pain".
- Hypothyroidism is often the result of iodine deficiency.
- "Some foods contain substances that prevent the utilization of iodine. These foods are termed goitrogens and include food such as turnips, cabbage, mustard, soybean, peanuts, pine nuts and millet. Cooking usually inactivates goitrogens."
