I know this is an odd question, but I thought Dr Wise Young, being a neuro, would be able to answer this for me. I live in a small rural community and recently had to drill a new water well. Having neurolgical problems (from a stoke at infancy and later developements due to RSDS), I thought this SCI site would be the best place to ask.
Well, the EPA up to 2006 would accept 50 ppb of arsnic in the water supply as non toxic, but after that it was reduced to 10 ppb. In New England we naturally get small amounts of arsnic in our water supply and we have been drinking the water here for 100's of years with no nealth effects. Now the EPA is saying our water is dangerous and the health department is trying to force me to put in an expensive, difficult to maintain filter in my water system. I am one who beleives in keeping things as simple as possable, and with the increase in prices and the ressession, I just cannot afford to properly maintain it.
My well man even said I had to drink so much water before I would feel any ill effects from the amount of arsnic in the water that I would end up dying from water intoxication.
Why are they changing the levels, and would 45-50ppb be any harm to me after 55 years of drinking New England water from private wells??? Our bodies certainly have not changed in 3 years!!
Doesn't the enveroment that we exist in (ramp railings, balconies, etc in the pressure treated wood exposes up to more arsnic that my water) expose us to more "dangerous" contaminents than this well?
With the nerolgical problems I have, would leaving the well as is cause me any harm?
