wondering about this as DH and I are hoping to embark on the baby makin' business in 2009. :D Just wondering if these meds. are ok for pregnancy? My maternal/fetal doc. is going to have me shut off my stim for 1st and 2nd trimester but I will be on meth. & morphine. I'm not keen on this but better than pain. However..I'm wondering if there are other meds out there that are better for pregnancy that may allow me to take less narcotic. I didn't ask him about this at our appt. but will talk to my pain doc. about it soon. Just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge about this.

Thanks,
Danimal

Do you have an Ob/Gyn yet? Usually, they are very particular about what meds you are on and they always seem to have the last say in those matters.

I do..I'm working with the head of maternal/fetal medicine at a pretty famous hospital so I'm in really good hands. But we didn't talk about this possibility when I met with him...it's just something I've been thinking about lately. Anyway..just wondering if anyone on here knew anything. ;)

Danimal, the FDA lists Lyrica under category C which means that it would be used with caution if the doctor judges that the benefits of the drug outweigh potential risks of the drug to the baby. In general, the lower the dose of drug that one takes, the less risk it poses to the baby. Most obstetricians will request that the mother take the minimum dose required for safety and health during the pregnancy and when breast-feeding. Basically, the baby is being treated with the drug also and the dose should be minimized. There is a pretty good discussion of the subject here:
