My legs always feel better after getting a good massage. What is the best way to massage your legs by yourself? I have a hand massager but it isn't strong enough. What do you recommend? Thanks.

What kind of hand massager do you have? They're not all created equal. Have you tried a Hitachi massager, or one of the handheld percussion massagers?

I love my Homedics handheld percussion massager (http://www.homedics.com/products/massage/handheld-massagers/therapist-select-compact-percussion-massager.html), aka The Thumper. Works great on all body parts, including legs.

I prefer to to choose a muscle groop and kneed it with a hot oil. I like to control the pressure. High neuropathy keeps me from a therapist to work on my lower leggs.

Hi, I would reco the Thumper Massager - I discovered it from my massage therapist who used it too. I have two - one hand held so I can reach my back and legs - Mini Pro - and one that works my feet and brings circulation to my feet and legs is really awsome - Versa Pro. The real Thumpers are more expensive but they last forever and are more powerful and adjustable. Don't waste money on the look-a-likes such as homedics (I burnt 2 of them out and they just don't feel the same) It was tough to find one so ordered from the mfr www.thumpermassager.com (http://www.thumpermassager.com) . If I sound like a fan I really am :applaud:. gh

You might condsider leg inflators. I first had the experience in hospital where they use warm water in a legging. It increases pressure, gradually, on the both legs and then releases, then repeats for about 20 minutes. What a great feeling. My daughter is a Dr. of PT and got me one for the individual, using air. Not as wonderful as the big expensive hospital model, but still feels great. Fully automatic so you just lay back and enjoy. If interested, I'll get the info for you.

Hello,

I just happened to visit this topic and thought of sharing my experience. There would be a lot of ways to give yourself a massage. If you ask particularly from me, I would advice you a few simple steps to do it the right way.

Rub your whole leg smoothly from thigh to ankle. Put each hand on opposite sides of your leg. Do this several times for the muscles to begin relaxing.
Spend time on the thigh, recognizing the muscles in the front and on the outside of the leg. Squeeze the tense muscles and release. Knead as you would a loaf of dough. Then smooth the thigh by stroking the muscles with one hand trailing the other.
Massage all around your knee, applying circular patterns around the kneecap with your fingertips. Then stroke the back of the knee with your full hand.
Knead your calf muscles away from the bone & then release, using both hands. Soothe the area by gently stroking, one hand following the other up the back of the leg.
Finish and repeat on the other leg.

I also follow the same when I have to give myself a massage; but usually I ask my wife to massage me. She is professional massage therapist and teaches massage therapy programs in different institutes. So, its always good to have my legs massaged from her.

Work out for yourself and you'll get to know what is best for you and what is not.

Austin
